Somerset ( Viscount Dnngarvan ) and the Depnty Provincial Grand Master Bro . R . C Else the Installing Master . Bro . Else , in reply , said : —Worshipful Master and Brethren , I wish I could find time to thank you for the kind manner in which you have drank my health , and for the fraternal way in which you have received me . First of all I have to apologise for leaving early , aa to-morrow is Sunday and

being a family man it is necessary for me to be home to-night , and under these circumstances you will excuse my leaving for Bridgwater soon . I have to thank yoa very cordially for your kind invite' to this banquet , and I regret I cannot remain longer for the purpose of enjoying the excellent musical programme whioh has been arranged . I desire to express my thanks to the brethren who have materially

assisted me in the ceremony of installation this afternoon ; to Bro . Appleton , who is one of the best Director of Ceremonies it has ever been my pleasure to meet with ; to your able and efficient Organist , and last , but not least , to . Bro . Maby , who , having regard for his age , I am very grateful to for coming once more to assist me as Herald . The musical parts well performed greatly enhance the

beautiful ceremony of installation . The brethren have conferred on the W . M . a great dignity , and I think they have done a good work , and placed the right man in the right place . It has not been my pleasure to know the W . M . a very long time , but I am sure he will perform the workjin a manner thafc will reflect honour on 1755 . I hare reason to suppose if I come to Lodge Eldon next year I shall hear

from one and all how well he has performed the work of his arduous office . Bro . the Rev . Weatherley Provincial Grand Chaplain also replied in a suitable speech to this toast , as did also Bros . Rioe and Thebridge . Bro . . E . Davey I . P . M . proposed the W . M . of 1755 , whioh was received and drank with muoh cordiality . The W . M . replied , and after expressing his thanks , added;—You have given me

the greatest Masonio honour that you can , and I promise you that anything tbat I can do for the welfare of the Eldon Lodge I will do gladly . I will try to render the ceremonies in an impressive manner , and I ask yon to credit me in advance for intending to do my level best for tbe Lodge . I admire our Masonio system as I think every one must do , and the more we know about it the better we grow to a

correct knowledge of ourselves . The W . M . submitted the toasb of the I . P . M ., who bad done so much for the Lodge and endeared himself to every member . Bro . Davey I . P . M . returned his thanks and promised to do his utmost in the future for Freemasonry , and in passing expressed his gratitude to bis Officers of the year . The W . M . proposed the Past Masters of 1755 , to whom the position of the

Lodge and the respect in whioh it is held was due . This happy sentiment was acknowledged by Bros . Rice and Thebridge . The Visiting Brethren were next honoured , and waa replied to by Brofcher Sellick W . M . 1222 in a pleasant and entertaining speech , for whioh he is well known , in the course of whioh he had pleasnre in saying his Lodge numbered seventy-seven members , and they

had been able to send £ 90 to tbe Charities this year . The Senior Warden and Officers of 1755 was given , and acknowledged by Bros . Tonkin S . W ., Hazell J . W ., Jeffreys S . D ., and Moore I . G . Bro . Rice replied for the Masonic Charities , and referred to the grand subscription Bro . Terry had managed to get together . The Tyler ' s toast brought the list to a close . The mnsical brethren wore

Broa . Hall , Mott , Stafford , W . R . Thomas Dimery , Brock , Shrapnell , and Carrington , whilst the W . M . and Bro . Shaplaud contributed recitations . A good programme wns arranged , which was charmingly varied , and made additionally interesting by two violin solos by Bro . Theo . Carrington . Bro . Shrapnell and Bro . Brock presided at the piano . The afternoon was most enjoyable . The brethren

separated at half-past eight , to enable many to catch the last train for Bristol , aud thus ended one of the most successful meetings in tho history of the Lodge . The Lodge room , it may be mentioned , bad been artistically decorated with choice palms and shrubs from the nurseries of Messrs . Garaway , and the pedestals were rendered additionally attractive with beautiful bouquets of hothouse flowers ,

The Lodge having been duly opened , the minutes of the last meeting were read and con - firmed , while the reports of the Audit Committee and the Benevolent Fundi being in the possession of the members were taken as read , and were carried unanimously . Bro . John Culver having been elected W . M . for the ensuing year , was introduced by Bro . Corpe ,

and signified his assent to fche usual conditions . He waa then installed in the chair according to ancient custom , fche ceremony being performed by Bro . Joseph Bladon . Bro . John Culver was subsequently saluted by the brethren , and then proceeded to appoint and invest his Officers : Bros . AV . H . Foot S . W ., W . H . Lowry J . W ., T . 0 . Corpe P . M . Treas ., J . W . Dewsnap P . M . Sec ., C Muasared S . D , Alfred

J . Dixie P . M . J . D ., 0 . Heinekey I . G ., 0 . H . Kunth D . C , A . T . Basohinski and F . H . Stollery Stewards , and Thomas Bowler Tyler . The new Master immediately proceeded to show his ability by initiating Messrs . Alfred Perkins and Alfred Wm . Newbold , wbo had been previously balloted for , into the secrets and mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry . The ceremony was admirably worked and

elicited the cordial approval of the brethren . A Past Master ' s jewel , awarded by the Lodge , was presented to Bro . Bladon I . P . M ., in a ' few complimentary remarks by the W . M ., which was acknowledged by Bro . Bladon . There being no further bnsiness , the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where a capital repast was supplied by Messrs . Spiers and Pond . At the

termination of the banquet the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were given by the W . M . Bro . 0 . F . Hogard responded for the Grand Officers , and referred to the excellent work achieved by the Earl of Lathom during the sixteen years he was Deputy Grand Master , and to his appointment as Pro Grand Master . All the Grand Officers were earnest in the causa of charity ; he mentioned that when Lord

Lathom took the chair at the Boys' School Festival in 1891 , some £ 26 , 000 were raised , while tbe Earl of Mount Edgcumbe obtained £ 68 , 000 at the Festival of the Old Peoples' Institution last February . In a few complimentary words tho I . P . M . proposed the health and a successful year of office to fche W . M ., who by his ability and skill exhibited that evening in the Lodge had set an example to the

brethren . Bro . Culver in reply said that he had but one thought and one desire , and that was to see the Duke of Cornwall Lodge flourish . He had made many friends since he joined , whom ib waa always a pleasure to meet time after time . He had visited several Lodges , but he had never seen any to equal theirs for real good fellowship . They were never so happy as when they met together

and spent a pleasant evening whicb wonld hear the morning's reflection . He trusted the Lodge wonld long continue to flourish under the successive Masters . Bro . Culver subsequently gave the Installing Officer , who had performed his task in spito of mauy difficulties . Bro . Bladon acknowledged the toast , and said ho had the gratification of knowing that his year of office had been a most

successfnl one , nearly one hundred guineas had been subscribed to the Charities , and they had several new members ; he thanked the brethren for their kindness in assisting him to accomplish so much . The W . M . proposed the Initiates , who were two good men , old friends of his , both of whom he was sure would rise in the Craffc surd perform their duty to the satisfaction of the Lodge . Bro .

Newbota in returning thanks said that the little he had seen of Free , masonry would teach him to become a better man , and he trusted he would be enabled to do credit to the Lodge and the Craft . Bro . Perkins expressed his regret that he bad not joined the Craft years ago , bub even afc this late hour he would endeavour to become a true and faithful member of the Lodge . Bros . Harris and

Soofct-Miller responded for the Visitors , and Bros . Brooke , Cattlemole and Cox for the Past Masters . Bro . Dewsnap , in replying for himself aud the Treasurer , said that the Lodge was in a flourishing condition , and while they had amply fulfilled their duty to the Masonio Charities they were still in possession of a respectable balance in hand . They had made eight members last year , and with snch an excellent

new Master they would be sure to increase . The Officers of the Lodge were also likewise honoured , and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a pleasant termination . During the evening a delightful selection of music was given by Bros . Wheeler , Syokel more , and Pocklington , assisted by Miss Sargent and Mr . Munro Davison , the arrangements being under the direction of Bro * Walter Perrin .

BLACKWATER LODGE , No . 1977

rjlHE annual festival took place on Monday , the 5 th inst ., at the J- Blue Boar Hotel , Maldon . The W . M ., Brother George Davia P . G . A . P ., presided . Bro . E . A . Basham the W . M . elect was installed into the chair of K . S . by Brother George Davis , after which the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers . Subsequently the brethren and visitors , to the number of 35 , sat down to a banquet at the Blue Boar Hotel , under the presidency of the W . M . Brother E . A . Basham .

Faith Lodge of Instruction , No . 581 ( Manchester ) . — The half-yearly social gathering of this old and highly popular Lodge was held on Wednesday , the 7 th inst ., at the Old Boars Head , Withy Grove . Amongst those present were Bros . W . W . Warburton

Lathom took the chair at the Boys' School Festival in 1891 , some £ 26 , 000 were raised , while tbe Earl of Mount Edgcumbe obtained £ 68 , 000 at the Festival of the Old Peoples' Institution last February . In a few complimentary words tho I . P . M . proposed the health and a successful year of office to fche W . M ., who by his ability and skill exhibited that evening in the Lodge had set an example to the

brethren . Bro . Culver in reply said that he had but one thought and one desire , and that was to see the Duke of Cornwall Lodge flourish . He had made many friends since he joined , whom ib waa always a pleasure to meet time after time . He had visited several Lodges , but he had never seen any to equal theirs for real good fellowship . They were never so happy as when they met together

and spent a pleasant evening whicb wonld hear the morning's reflection . He trusted the Lodge wonld long continue to flourish under the successive Masters . Bro . Culver subsequently gave the Installing Officer , who had performed his task in spito of mauy difficulties . Bro . Bladon acknowledged the toast , and said ho had the gratification of knowing that his year of office had been a most

successfnl one , nearly one hundred guineas had been subscribed to the Charities , and they had several new members ; he thanked the brethren for their kindness in assisting him to accomplish so much . The W . M . proposed the Initiates , who were two good men , old friends of his , both of whom he was sure would rise in the Craffc surd perform their duty to the satisfaction of the Lodge . Bro .

Newbota in returning thanks said that the little he had seen of Free , masonry would teach him to become a better man , and he trusted he would be enabled to do credit to the Lodge and the Craft . Bro . Perkins expressed his regret that he bad not joined the Craft years ago , bub even afc this late hour he would endeavour to become a true and faithful member of the Lodge . Bros . Harris and

Soofct-Miller responded for the Visitors , and Bros . Brooke , Cattlemole and Cox for the Past Masters . Bro . Dewsnap , in replying for himself aud the Treasurer , said that the Lodge was in a flourishing condition , and while they had amply fulfilled their duty to the Masonio Charities they were still in possession of a respectable balance in hand . They had made eight members last year , and with snch an excellent

new Master they would be sure to increase . The Officers of the Lodge were also likewise honoured , and the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a pleasant termination . During the evening a delightful selection of music was given by Bros . Wheeler , Syokel more , and Pocklington , assisted by Miss Sargent and Mr . Munro Davison , the arrangements being under the direction of Bro * Walter Perrin .

BLACKWATER LODGE , No . 1977

rjlHE annual festival took place on Monday , the 5 th inst ., at the J- Blue Boar Hotel , Maldon . The W . M ., Brother George Davia P . G . A . P ., presided . Bro . E . A . Basham the W . M . elect was installed into the chair of K . S . by Brother George Davis , after which the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers . Subsequently the brethren and visitors , to the number of 35 , sat down to a banquet at the Blue Boar Hotel , under the presidency of the W . M . Brother E . A . Basham .

Faith Lodge of Instruction , No . 581 ( Manchester ) . — The half-yearly social gathering of this old and highly popular Lodge was held on Wednesday , the 7 th inst ., at the Old Boars Head , Withy Grove . Amongst those present were Bros . W . W . Warburton
