Merry , 2 SS j VV . Wilkinson , 44 ; and
G . S . Smith , P . M . 1134 . The lodge was opened by the VV . M ., and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . Bro . R . Caldwell , P . M ., P . P . G . D . C , then took the chair , and proceeded to pass Bro . W . H . Lowry , which ceremony was performed in his customary manner , which is almost beyond criticism . The W . M . again resumed the chair , and proceeded to raise
Bro . C . B . Taylor , M . D ., to the Third Degree . This ceremony was also well conducted , and reflects great credit upon the W . M . At the completion of the ceremony , all were anxiously awaiting with great interest , and the subsequent proceedings probably accounted for there being so large a number of brethren present . It was proposed by Bro . J . Bridgeford , P . M ., seconded by Bro . Godby , P . M ., and
supported by several P . M . 's , that a jewel be presented to Bro . R . Caldwell , P . M ., P . P . G . D . C . This was unanimously carried , and recorded on the minutes . In making the presentation , Bro . J . Bridgeford said it gave him him very much pleasure indeed to ask Bro . Caldwell to accept this handsome jewel , not as a recognition of services rendered only , but as a memento of the gratitude
of the members of the lodge to one who has shown such a continued interest in its welfare . He had known him personally over 37 years , 25 of which he had been a close companion as a Mason , and during all that extended time he had always found him just and upright , an honest man and a thorough Mason . They all thanked him for the great services he had rendered to the lodge for so many
years past as D . C , and , although he had thought it best to resign that important position , yet he trusted they should have his presence amorigst them regularly , to render any assistance they might require . He trusted that he might be spared long to wear that jewel , and when looking upon it might ever remember that it was presented to him for the great love and esteem the members of the lodge had for
him . Pro . Caldwell ( who evidently felt overcome with emotion ) said they really must excuse him making any remarks that night , as it was such a . surprise , and had come upon him so unexpectedly ; but he wouid simply thank them one and all , and at a future date would say more . It was ' proposed by Bro . Stopford , P . M ., and seconded
by Bro . Thompson , that a letter of condolence be sent to the widow and family of the late Bro . G . Stringer , expressing their regret at the great bereavement which had befallen them . All business being at an end , the lodge was closed . The above handsome jewel was specially designed and manufactured by Bro . George Kenning , of London , and 47 , Bridge-street , Manchester .
