Mr . There are actors and authors who
fancy that , once praised , they must always be praised ; that , having succeeded once , they can never fail . Mr . Scott points out the folly of this assumption , but it is not likely his protest will avail . M . Alexander Dumas , the distinguished French dramatist , is a man of the greatest regularity of life—in that setting an example to his literary . confreres . He is an early riser of early risers , being up every morning at halfpast five . Believing that the best brain-work is done upon an empty stomach , he takes nothing in the way of solid food till noon . Nearly all his literary work is done in this
time between six in the morning and noon . At noon he lunches , and if the weather is fine , he goes out to pick up notions on the Boulevard . At seven he dines , and is in bed at ten . He rarely or never goes to the theatre . He is a most economical man , and although very rich by reason of his successful plays , lives with the strictest economy and in a comfortable bourgeois style .

time between six in the morning and noon .
