amounting altogether to about fifty in number . The banquet , which was confided to the Stewards , Bros . Eraser and Thurland , was of a most sumptuous character , and reflected great credit on their taste and judgment . The W . M ., Bro . Houghton , presided with great ability , introducing the various toasts in striking and appropriate terms . The addresses of many of the Brethren were distinguished for their eloquence and warmth of feeling ; and one of the most pleasurable features of the meeting was the enthusiastic reception * given to Bro . Burstall , after an absence of five years in Australia . His speech in reply was fervent and eloquent , and
conveyed a sense of the pleasure he experienced in meeting once more within the walls of the Lodge the Brethren to whom he was so deeply attached , and his regard for whom had been strengthened by a five years' separation , during which time thousands of miles had divided them . He dwelt on the happiness it afforded him to meet so many old familiar faces , and paid a graceful tribute to the memory of the few who had passed away since he last met them round the festive board . The evening was spent in that sociable and agreeable manner which characterizes the meetings of the fraternity , and we doubt not will be reverted to in many a coming year with feelings of the utmost pleasure and satisfaction .

At the banquet , which took place at the Baven and Bell Hotel , the Brov . G . M ., Sir Watkin W . Wynn , Bart ., M . P ., occupied the chair . After the removal of the cloth , the Brov . G . M . rose and said , " Brethren , the first toast I have to propose is , 'The Queen . ' Both as a Sovereign and a woman I need not now occupy your time in enlarging upon her excellent qualities , as by all of us they are well known and admitted . The virtues of our Queen would not only amply qualify her to be
made a Mason , but to be placed at the head of our noble and distinguished Order , were it not for the Salic law , which , you are aware , is so essentially a part of our constitution . We will hope , however , that she is the mother of princes who will become Masons . " The Brov . G . M . then gave in rotation , " the Health of the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master of England , the Earls of Zetland and Yarborough , & c ., " which toast was duly honoured , and followed by " The Health of the Prov . G . M . of Cheshire , Lord Combermere , and the other Brov .
