GRAND LODGE OF COLUMBIA . In the Grand Lodge of the district of Columbia , in annual communication , Nov . 4 , 1856 , Bro . P . G . M ., B . B . French , from the Committee to whom was recommitted , in June last , all the papers relative to the formation of the Independent Grand Lodge of Canada , for re-examination , brought up the report , which was read , accepted , and the resolution accompanying the same , was agreed to by the Grand Lodge . The report goes at length through the voluminous correspondence already
published , and states that the Committee have taken great pains to procure all the information they could relative to the subject , and have entered upon the duty of re-examining it with the full purpose of doing Masonic justice to all the parties concerned ; and after reading every paper before them , and weighing the matter as carefully as it was in their power to do , they can now only reiterate the conclusion to which they came in May last . Upon a careful reperusai of the circular of the Grand Lodge of Canada , the Committee have not been able to find what the
circular of the Grand Secretary of the Provincial Grand Lodge denominates " statements which are not borne out by facts . " Nor do they find anything in the former circular which would lead them to suppose that the action of the forty-one Lodges assembled at Hamilton on the 10 th day of October , 1855 , was the unanimous action of the Craft in Canada . After a very lengthened dissertation , the Committee , in conclusion , submit the following resolution , and recommend its adoption : —
Besolved , —That the Grand Lodge of the district of Columbia , seeing no reason to recede from the position she has already taken , re-affirms the resolutions unanimously adopted at her semi-annual communication , in May last , recognizing " The Grand Lodge of Canada" as an independent Masonic jurisdiction . ( Signed ) B . French , ) Herman H . Heath , > Committee . Grand Lodge of P . Col ,, Y . P . Page , j Nov . 4 th } 1856 .
GEAND LODGE OF MAINE . The Committee on Foreign Correspondence on the Grand Lodge of Canada recommend for adoption the following resolutions : — 1 . Hesolved , —That the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Maine , receive with emotions of the deepest interest , the communication from the M . W . Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada , with the fraternal salutations of that august body ; organized on the 10 th of November , A . L . 5855 , by the spontaneous action of forty-one subordinate Lodges , hitherto distributed under distinct and separate jurisdictions .
2 . Kesolved , —That the reasons set forth hy our Brethren in Canada , appear to us a full vindication and defence of the important action which terminates the jurisdiction of Foreign Grand Lodges in this noble Province , and that the successive steps taken by them in severing the bonds of allegiance which so long held them under separate foreign jurisdictions , and uniting themselves in one
