Dry den made some further remarks in connectionwith the observation that he was glad to be able to agree with Mr . Baron in many ihiportant points . A discussion folio wed , conducted by several members of t ^ ciated societies ^ after which the meeting was adjourned .
The whole of Thursday was spent by the members of the congress in visiting the colleges , church were condueted by J . H ^ manner , the various points of interest and visited in . succession New College , the Schools and the Bodleian Library , Divinity Schools , Radclifjfe Library , St Mary ' s Church , Magdalen College , Merton College , Corpus Christi College ., Oriel College , and AllSouis '
College , at which place a sumptuous luncheon was provided for the party in the Hall , the post of honour being occupied by the Hon . F . Lygon , IP , At its conclusion , several appropriate toasts were given and responded to , including " Success to the Oxford Architectural Society , coupled . with the health of Mr . J . H . Parker , who acknowledged the compliment ; u The Associated Societies , " responded to by Archdeacon Thorp ; The
Architects , acknowledged by Mr . E . G . Scott , the chairman , & c . The company afterwards visited Christ Church , Pembroke College , the new Debating Room of the Oxford Union Society , St . Michael's ' Church , St . John ' s College , the Martyrs' Memorial , St . Giles ' s Church , Balliol , Exeter , Jesus , Lincoln , and Wadham Colleges ;
In the evening a conversazione was held in . the Society ' s room , which was attended by a brilliant assemblage . A splendid collection of medieval and modern works in the precious metals , and in iron and brass , was exhibited , to which contributions were sent by New College , Corpus Christi , Magdalen , Exeter , Oriel , Queen ' s , Jesus , Wadham , and Lincoln . The city plate , and the much-abused and neglected corporation mace , occupied a prominent place in the exhibition . The exhibition also
contained contributions from the following artists : —Mr . Skid more , of Coventry ; Mr . Hart , Wych-street , London ; Mr . Keith , Westmoreland-place , London ; Mr . Singer , of Frome Selwood ; Mr . Carter , of Oxford ; Mr . Payne , of Oxford , and the Rev . J . Baron . The Vice-Chancellor presided , and the subject selected for the evening ' s conversation was u Metal AVork , " in which Mr . Skidmore , Mr . Hart , Mr . Street , and the Rev . Mr . Baron , and other gentlemen took part . On Friday the members started at ten o ' clock on an architectural excursion in the neighbourhood of Oxfordj visiting Forest Hill , celebrated
