The Lodge was opened in the first degree and the summons read . The
W . M , then said the first question they had to decide was the selection of a suitable room in which , for the future , they could hold the meetings of the Lodge . Many rooms were mentioned , but in every instance the rent was an insurmountable objection to taking suites of rooms solely for the purpose of Lodge meetings . Bro . Lewis , P . M ., proposed , and Bro . Thorne , S . W ., seconded , " Thatthe room in which we are now assembled , with the convenient room adjoining , be taken for the future meetings of the Lodge , on the terms offered . " This proposition ,
when put to the Brethren , was carried unanimously . A Brother was proposed as a re-joining member , and another to join the Lodge . Two gentlemen were proposed as candidates for initiation into the mysteries of Masonry . This was the first meeting that has taken place since the installation of the W . M . From the attendance of the Brethren , and the prospect of there being plenty of work to do , there is every probability that the Lodge , which has been but indifferently attended of late , will now muster as it did in its palmiest days , and be carried on with great success by its spirited Master .

SUSSEX . Brighton . —Royal Clarence Lodge ( No . 338 ) . —This Lodge has to deplore the loss of one of its oldest members and Past Masters , Bro . D . M . Foikard , Prov . G . Reg ., who died on Thursday 17 th inst . At the monthly meeting on Friday , 18 th inst ., Bro . Edmund Furner , P . M ., in a very feeling manner passed a high but well merited eulogium on the many virtues of the late Bro . Foikard , both as
a Freemason and good citizen , and after enumerating the length of time he had been a Mason , the various offices which he had filled in the Lodge , and the very efficient manner in which he had discharged their respective duties , Bro . Furner concluded by expressing the deep regrets of the Brethren on the irreparable loss which Masonry had sustained , and more especially this Lodge , by the death of so worthy and excellent a Brother . It was resolved- <( That the Brethren of the Royal Clarence Lodge do meet at the lodge gate of the extra-mural cemetery
