was placed in office by his royal highness , who was subsequently pleased to appoint him to a distinguished office in Grand Lodge . The duties of that office as all others he had endeavoured conscientiously to perform , and he was happy to say that his efforts were crowned With the approbation of his Brethren and Companions . He was rejoiced that the office from which he had just retired for the second time had been conferred on his worthy and younger Brother , Roxburgh . He had certainly taken great interest in the Lodge of Antiquity and the St . James ' s Chapter , but the labours he had had to perform had been much lightened by the
kindnessand consideration of the Brethren and Companions . His eldest born in Masonry had spoken of him in terms much too flattering . He should ever be proud of this expression of their opinion , and felt too much moved by the gratification which he felt to follow tke subject further . Again thanking , them , he would propose to them " The health of the WvM , of the Lodge of Antiquity . " Bro . Col : ' Western acknowledged the complimeat ; and various other toasts followed , Brp . Thory Chapman , as a P . M . of forty years' standing , returning thanks for the body of which he is so old and distinguished a member .
Lodge of Temperance ( No . 198 ) . —This Lodge held its last meeting for the season on Thursday , the 20 th ult . Bro . T . Newman , W . M ., presided with great tact and judgment , and initiated three gentlemen into the Order in a manner that fully bore out the expectations of the Lodge when they elected him Worshipful Master for the current year , after which he passed Bro . Sutherland to the degree of Fellow Craft . At the solicitation of one of the Past Masters , Bro . Henry Muggeridge , the excellent Preceptor of the Stability Lodge of Instruction ^
performed the ceremony of raising Bro . Ohler to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in his usual impressive manner . All other business being satisfactorily arranged , the Brethren adjourned to the banquet . The usual Masonic toasts having been gone through , the health of the visiting Brethren , Bros . H . Muggeridge and Tappolet , W . M . No . 227 ; Wm . Parker , Bangham , and Wishart , No . 15 ; and H . Jenkins , P . M ., late of this Lodge , was proposed . Bro . Muggeridge acknowledged the toast , and took the opportunity of complimenting the Worshipful Master and his Officers on the very admirable manner in which they had performed the work
of the evening , and the way in which the charities were supported by the members of the Lodge , as well as for the hospitable manner in which they had been received . Bro . Bolton in proposing the health of the Worshipful Master , expressed his opinion that the Worshipful Brother had performed the duties of his office in a highly creditable manner . The Worshipful Master in reply , said he would endeavour to emulate the conduct of his predecessor , and he trusted that at the close of his year of office they would be equally pleased with him . The Brethren separated after spending a most harmonious evening .
Lodge of biNCEiUTY ( No , 203 ) . — The final meeting , for the season , of this very numerous Lodge , took place on the 17 th ult . at the Cheshire Cheese , Crutched Friars , Bro . fentiman , W . M . Lodge being opened in due form , a ballot was taken for the admission of Mr . Adidas , which , being in favour of the candidate , he was properly introduced , and initiated into Freemasonry , the ceremony of initiation being most ably performed by Bro . Bawley , the immediate P . M . ;
after which Bros . Levegue and Ahtoine Henley were advanced to the Fellow Craft Degree , the ceremony of passing being performed by Bro . Potts , in his usual impressive manner . Tho ceremonies ended , the question of a summer banquet pursuant to a motion made at a former meeting , was discussed and arranged to take place in July next , several members being proposed to form a committee for making the necessary arrangements and finding a suitable locality . A motion was then made by Bro . Potts * , who said , that in consideration of the
