After the routine business had been transacted , the Treasurer ' s report , w hich exhibited a most satisfactory account of the progress and prospects of this young association , was received and adopted . A ballot was taken for the admission of Comp . William Piatt , of the Mount Sinai Chapter , which , being in his favour , he was duly installed as a Knight . Sir Knt . Roughton then presented Sir Knt . Peter Laird , 1 st Capt ., who had been elected
E . G ., for installation , and , in the presence of three other P . E . Cs ., he was obligated , and the full ceremonial performed by the V . E ., Prov . G-. Com . The other Knts . Companions were then admitted , and the new E . C . retired , and was afterwards introduced , preceded by Sir Knt . How as Dir . of Cers . ; passing under the arch of steel , he was placed in the chair , and proclaimed and saluted in due form . The E . C . then appointed as officers for the year ensuing , Sir Knts . Capt . Henry Gierke , 1 st Capt . ; Lt . Henry James Anderson , 2 nd Capt . ; J . W . Eigg , Expert ; John l ) ixon , Capt . of Lines ; Malings , Reg . ; Thos . Hassell , Standard Bearer ;
Jackson , Herald ; Henderson , Equerry ; theV . E . Sir Knt . Hinxman was unanimously re-elected Treasurer . In accordance with a notice duly given , it was moved by Sir Knt . Clarke that the future meetings of the Encampment be held at the Freemason ' s Tavern , in Woolwich , which motion being seconded by Sir Knt . Alderson , was carried by an unanimous vote . The encampment was then closed , and , lit nine o'clock , the Knights sat down to banquet . The E . C . in proposing the health of the Prov . G . Com ., alluded to the untiring efforts of that eminent Brother by which they were enabled to meet so satisfactorily . He trusted they might be long
blessed with his presence and fostering aid . Sir Knt . Hinxman in responding , expressed his grateful thanks for the support of the Knights Companions , and called on them to do honour to the eminent Brother they had that day placed in the chair , under whose government he was sure they would continue to prosper . The E . G ., Sir Knt . Laird acknowledged the reception given to him on his first presiding over them , and called their attention to the fact of there being so good an attendance at this meeting . No efforts should be spared on his part , to render himself a worthy successor of the E . Cs who had preceded him . He then asked the Knights assembled to give a cordial greeting to their visitor , Sir Knt .

It was most gratifying to find that there were fourteen members of the Encampment present ; it was rare to find , even in some of the more noted Encampments in London , so many to attend for the business . Indeed , it was often difficult to get half a dozen together prior to the banquet , and he had heard that evening of a London Encampment , where , on a recent occasion , two Companions were installed in the present of only three Knights , which were all that could be got together ; but that day all were present to
