LOUISIANA . GRAND LODGE OF LOUISIANA . ^ The Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana , Bro . Saniiiel G . Bisk has placed us in possession of the proceedings of the Grand Lodge . TheG . M ., in his address , makes the following remarks : " Although made a part of my duty on this occasion to report to you the general condition of Masonry , I deem ,
it unnecessary to say much on the subject . Even were you less familiar with Masonic periodicals , the report of your standing committee on foreign correspondence and Masonic information now ready to be presented to you , would bring to your notice everything of inaportance going on in the Masonic world . " He also remarks , " Candour compels us to admit that our strength has hot been increased in proportion to our numbers , and that we annually introduce into the edifice material that ought be rejected . "
The G . M . alludes at length to the Lodges which have withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge . None of these Lodges have returned their charters . The report of the Grand Treasurer shows the finances of the Grand Lodge to be good . A debt of 12 , 000 dollars , which matured on the 4 th of March , and which the Officers seemed apprehensive there would be a difficulty in
meeting , was paid , as the Grand Secretary observes , without borrowing one dollar . Another debt of 12 , 485 * 03 dollars , which matures on the 4 th of March , 1859 , when paid , will leave the Grand Lodge in possession of property worth at the lowest estimate 60 , 000 dollars . Louisiana Belief Lodge is doing its work of mercy , making glad the hearts of the poor and destitute in relieving their wants . The poor of all nations , the widows and orphans of deceased Brethren , all are the recipients of its benevolence . The amount of relief granted during the year 1857 was 2 , 372 , 80 dollars . The " Committee on work and returns of Lodges under dispensation , " in the report show the
almost " annihilation of time by some Lodges , and their by-laws as containing some curious provisions . The Grand Lodge has a " Grand Translator , " who receives fifty dollars per month . Portraits of George Washington and Jacob B . Poinsett were presented to the Grand Lodge by Marion Lodge , No . 68 . The following resolutions were adopted : —•
Resolved , " That the Permanent Committee on Work , and the Lodges of this jurisdiction be , and are hereby instructed , that this Grand Lodge expects and requires that uniformity in the following particulars shall be both taught and practised , viz . : " 1 . In all the means of recognition . " 2 . In the ties which bind them together as Masons . "
Hesolved , ( cThat this Grand Lodge does hereby authorize the establishment of a Lodge of Instruction , composed of Masters and Wardens of Lodges , and such other Master Masons as may choose to join it , in New Orleans , for the purpose of giving instruction and lectures on the various forms and symbols of the three Symbolic Degrees , and to investigate , in connection with the Special
