NORFOLK . PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE . A Prov * Grand Lodge was held at Harleston , on Friday , August 14 , under the auspices of the Faithful Lodge , No . lOO , and was very well attended by the Brethren of this and the neighbouring province of Sufiolk . Owing to the Rev , Archdeacon Ormerod , the rector , refusing the use of the church , as is customary upon these occasions , the arrangements were rather different from what
had been anticipated . The Brethren met at the Magpie Hotel , and proceeded , in Masonic procession , to the Lodge Room , at the Corn Exchange , where Lodge was opened by Bro . Benjamin Bond Cabbell , Esq . ; F . R . S . and Prov . G . M . for Norfolk ; and , after the business of the Lodge was completed , the procession re-formed , and proceeded to the bowling-green , at the Magpie Hotel , where a very excellent and impressive oration was delivered by Bro . W . L . Fox , Prov . G . S ., which was listened to with great attention by a numerous and respectable audience , who
were admitted by free tickets . A collection was afterwards made at the gate , in aid of the funds of the Harleston Benevolent Society , which will be thereby considerably benefited , although not to the extent it would have been , had the liberality of the rector allowed the use of the church . —[ We take the above from a local paper , not having been favoured with any account ; nor with a notification of the day on which the meeting was to be held , to enable us to send a reporter . We believe the Masons of the district are not noted for their activity . ]
