( Applause . ) The healths of tlie Earl of Zetland , Grand Master , and of Lord Panmure , Deputy-Grand Master of England , were next dul y honoured ; followed by that of the Deputy-Grand Master for Essex ; but Bro . Grand Master of Essex , " alluding to his services to this Province and to his efforts to promote tlie interests of Freemasonry in general . ( Cheers . ) The PROV . GIIAXD MASTER , in returning thanks , said he should be very glad to see so distinguished an office more worthily occuied
p ; but as long as be was so well supported by the brethren of the Province , and such a kind feeling manifested towards him , he should not shrink from the performance of his duties . ( Applause . ) The Pnov . GRAND MASTER , in proposing the health of the W . M . of the Angel Lodge , remarked that Bro . Pattison had long held a distinguished office in the Province , and was one of the great props of Masonry . He only regretted that another engagement deprived them of his company that evening .

Capt . PENDER , ivho was Junior Warden during the Mastership of Col . Maydwell , returned thanks on his behalf . The health of the Prov . G . Secretary ( Bro . Mann ) was drank , with those of the members of the Bri ' ghtlingsea Lodge and the Mersca . brethren ; and as the closing toast Bro . Ginn-ix proposed "the Masonic Charities , " which he described as the bright and distinguishing feature of Freemasonry , and alluded to the large extent to which the Province of Essexand Colchester in particularhad
, , participated in those charities . The PROV . GRAND MASTER also spoke in support of the toast , and especially eulogised the boys' and girls' schools as amongst the most admirable institutions in the kingdom . The principal business of the lodge was the delivery of a lecture , by the W . AI . Bro . AViUiiun Tuohy , "On the working tools used in ' Freemasonry . " Xonrj but Master Masons were invited , and a goodly sprinkling of the Craft were present . Amonrj the visitors wore Bro . Captain AVilliams , of the Royal Naval College , W . AI . of tho .
Phoenix Lodge ( No . 319 ); Bro . T . AA ' eston , AA . M ., of the Portsmouth Lodge ( No . 717 ); Bro . D . King , AV . M ., of the Fareham Lodge ( No . 3 S 7 ); and officers and brethren of the different lodges in the locality . The usual business being concluded the AV . M . Bro . AV . Tuohy , gave one of the most interesting discourses the brethren ever had the pleasure of listening to in a provincial lodge , in a very lucid and happy style , explaining minutely the tools as used by the
Craft , and their morals attached . At the conclusion a very pleasing discussion took place on the uniformity of working in English lodges , when the lodge closed down , and the brethren retired to a splendid banquet , served iu Bro . G . AAllkins' best style . The usual toasts were given , and a most pleasant evening was spent , great credit being reflected on the AA . M . and his officers for their usual efficiency and desire to still maintain the Royal Sussex as the best working lodge in the province .

G . M ., and Bro . Dobson , of Gravesend , as D . Prov . G . M . On arrival at Gravesendin of invitation
our , pursuance an , to breakfast with the AA . Masters of the two Gravesend Lodges ( Nos . 91 and 709 ) , we found every appearance of a holiday , the streets being most profusely decorated with Hags , Masonic and otherwise , whilst the bells of the church were merrily pealing a welcome to the visitors . Precisely at twelve o ' clock the Prov . Grand Lodge was opened in the large room of the New Falcon Tavern by the R . AA . Bro .

AL , appointing Bro . A \ m . Archer Amherst , commonly called A"iscount Ilolmesdale , as Prov . G . M ., was read . The Acting Prov . G . M ,, addressing Bro . A iscount Ilolmesdale , said that the M . AV . G . AL having the fullest confidence in his
abilities , and having watched his Masonic career with great interest , felt the fullest confidence that he would do honour to the position to which be was now appointed . He ( Viscount Ilolmesdale ) had already served the office of Master in a private lodge , and received the thanks and approbation of his brethren ; he was now called to a more exalted position , and his lordship must remember that the more extended his sphere , the more would he have the opportunities of doing good—the more would the field of usefulness be
