auspicious aud eventful oue for the Craft generally , and especially for the brethren of the Province of Devon , ' for , in the first place , they had had the opportunity of attending tho great , grand , and glorious reception which the Masons of Devon and Cornwall had given his Royal Highness the Prineo of Wale * , when he opened the New Guildhall at Plymouth , such a spectacle ns
few Masons up to that time had witnessed , and again many had had the proud privilege of being preseut at a yet greater , grander , and more magnificent assembly of Freemasons when his Royal Highness was installed in the high and dignified position of M . W . G . M . It had occurred to him that such occasions as these should not pass unnoticed , or without some permanent memento of them being in the Lodge ;
with this objecb the members who had attended Grand Lodge on tho 28 th of April last , had a photograph taken , which , as enlarged , he begged to present to tho Lodge . In conclusion , he thanked his officers for the zealous aud efficient manner in which they had assisted him during his year of office in the duties of his important situation The photograph having been nuvoiled , Bro . Cartels' conduct in the chair during the past year , holding him up as an example for others to imitate , and proposed a resolution , not only recognising his important services , but thanking him for his very elegant and timely gift . This was seconded by Bro . Latimer I . P . M . in tho most cordial terms , and the motion
was earned by acclamation . Bro . Rae P . M ., Secretary of the Lodge , then gave notice of his intention to move , at its next regular meeting , that a P . M . ' s jewel , or some other tangible recognition of his services , bo presented to the W . M ., and in so doing took occasion to remark that , in Lodge Sincerity , such a presentation meant more than it did in many other Lodges , where jewels were regularly voted whether
the W . M . had worked well or not ; but there could bo no doubt that Bro . Curteis had worked as unexcoptionally as hi 3 year of office had been distinguished by events which it was impossible should occur again in tha lifetime of the brethren present . The Lodgo was then passed and raised to the higher degrees , and Bro . Latimer was duly installed according to ancient custom in tho chair of K . S ., the work
being performed in a faultless manner by the retiring Master , who had won the admiration of all by bis highly successful realisation of the beauty and improssiveness of the ceremonial , and a spontaneous burst of hearty applause greeted him on his taking his seat . The newly installed W . M . invested his officers as follow : —J . E . Curteis I . P . M ., T . Waldo How S . W ., J . E . Moon J . W ., T . S . Bayly Treasurer ,
