Scottish Freemasons And The Burns Anniversary.
SCOTTISH FREEMASONS AND THE BURNS ANNIVERSARY .
THERE is nothing a Scotsman enjoys like celebrating a good anniversary , and the Soots Lodge of Freemasons bit npon an excellent idea when it arranged that its principal meetings should be held on such dates as would make the occasions of special interest to London Scots . One of the most important of such occasions is tho anniversary of the birth of Eobert Burns . To
respond to the toast of " The Immortal Memory " in ench a way as to win tbe approval of a critical gathering of Scotchmen , every one of whom is an authority npon the matter , is no easy task , but nt the dinner of the Soots Ladpe ou Thursday , 22 nd nit ., it was in thoroughly capable hands . Bro . F . Faithfull Bogg is not only an
expert in City anuirs and in politics * , but somehow ho finds timo to take a keen interest in many otber matters , amongst which literature holds an important place , and even before ho came to the front as a 1 ' arliaineutary candidate , he was well known as an effective public speaker . One of his greatest previous successes was a speech on tho
¦ same subject as he took up on Thursday , and it was , therefore , with pleasureablo expectation as well as with some curiosity that the large gathering of leading Freemasons , Scottish , English , Indian and Colonial , assembled at the Scottish Corporation Hall . After the preliniinaries , amongst which must ba included a procession , headed by tho Lodge piper in Highland costume , the dancing of a Scots reel by
four o the Lodge members , aud thc reception with Highland honours of a haggis , the serious business of tho evening was proceeded with . The toast of tho evening , Tlie Graud Lodgo of Scotland and tho Immortal Memory of Brothor Robert Burns , was briefly given by Bro . Whitehead , tho Master . In response , Bro .
