He always looked upon charity as the backbone of Masonry . The three Masonic Institutions—the Boys' and Girls' Schools , and the Aged Benevolent Institution were doing a great and good work . Bro .
the Rev . R . Peek , whose name was coupled with the toast , in response referred to the recent Centenary Anniversary of the Girls' School , and thanked the brethren for the liberal manner in which he was supported when he went up as a Steward at the Festival . On that occasion the total amount subscribed by the county of Suffolk was
£ 537 10 s , of which Lodge Fidelity sent up £ 6-4 13 . In addition to that , eleven gentlemen had promised to subscribe one guinea each for five years . The Fidelity Lodge stood second on the list of all the Lodges in the Province of Suffolk , the only one which beat them
being the Prince of Wales at Ipswicn , which sent np a brother armed with the large sum of £ 144 odd . Other toasts followed . During the evening some excellent songs were given by Bros . J . J . C . Turner , Brunger , F . A . Bales , Purser , and others .

THE annual installation meeting of the members was held on the 28 th nit ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , Liverpool . After some preliminary business ( presided over by Bro . Bluneum I . P . M . ) , the chair was taken by Bro . Roberts W . M . The presentation of Brother Edgar Dow for installation was made by Bro 3 . Evans and Turner , and the impressive ceremony was admirably performed

was also thanked for his valuable present . A telegram was received and read from Bro . John Baxter , of Leamington ( formerly of this Lodge ) , wishing the W . Master and Brethren every prosperity and happiness during his period of office . On a motion duly
proposed and unanimously carried , Bro . J . Baxter was elected an honorary member . . The brethren adjourned to Bro . Bosworthiok ' a , Marlborough-street , for the annual banquet , at whioh upwards of eighty were present , under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . H . Haynes , assisted by his officers .

THE installation meeting was held on Tuesday , 26 th ult ., at the Masonio Hall , Maldon , when Bro . Arthur Barratt J . W . was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year by Bro Edmund Gowers P . M . P . P . G . Org . The Officers for the year were appointed as follow : —Bro 3 . W . H . De Ceas I . P . M ., Sadler S . W ., Gower J . W . Rev . H . Venn Ellis Chaplain , Sansom Treas ., F . G . Green Secretary ,
F . Gowers Organist , Dibben S . G ., Clover J . D ., Fiuch I . G ., Gowers and Bright Stewards , Huxtable Tyler . The Secretary stated that a most kind letter had been received from the Deputy Provincial Grand Master ( Bro . F . A . Philbriok , Q . C . ) , expressing his great regret that owing to pressing engagements in London he was unable to be
present at the meeting . Bro . H . J . Sansom the respected Treasurer of the Lodge , who was kept away by indisposition , wrote from his bed , congratulating the W . M . upon his election to office , and the Lodge upon having such a Master to preside over them for the ensuing year . The W . M . proposed a vote of thanks to Bro . Gowers
for his kindness in performing the installation ceremony , and in so able a manner . This was seconded by the S . W . and carried unanimously . Bro . E . Gowers returned thanks , and expressed a hope that some other Brother would get up the ceremony by the time another Installation meeting came round , as he had already performed the
duty three or four times . Bro . Gowers then , in felicitious terms , proposed " That the hearty congratulations of the Lodge be given to Bro . Thomas J . Railing on the occasion of his promotion to Grand Lodge honours . " Bro . Gowers said Bro . Railing was well known to them , and they had frequently met him as P . G . Sec , but this
was the first occasion on which he had come amongst them since the Grand Master had conferred upon him the well-deserved honour of the Grand Lodge purple . They all congratulated Bro . Railing , and their feelings were , he was sure , shared by the whole Province . Bro . F . G . Green Secretary , as one who had known Bro . Railing for
many years , asked to be allowed to second the motion . Bro . Railing expressed his thanks for tho very kind vote of the Brethren , and remarked that the Lodge of St . Peter was the first Lodge he visited after his appointment as P . G . Sec . in 1877 . The election of a Brother to represent tho Lodge on the Essex Provincial Charity
Committee then took place , and Bro . Edmund Gowers was unanimously re-elected . The Lodge was then closed , and about 40 Brethren adjourned to the King ' s Head , where a first class banquet was well served by the hostess . The toasts wero interspersed with some excellent vocal music by Bros . Osmund , E . Gowers , Coombes , F . Bird , and Masters Nunn and Siggors .
