West Middlesex Lodge , No . 1612 . —It has been our great pleasure , during the last month or two , to chronicle the proceedings at some most successful and eminently satisfactory gatherings of the members of our Order . Amongst those of our Lodges that wero consecrated last year , under what we may describe as especially favourable auspices , not one has , so far , better realised the favourable future
prognosticated for it than the West Middlesex . The Lodge was consecrated 15 th July 1876 , by Bro . John Hervey , Grand Secretary , and at once became recognised in the foremost rank as regards the character of its working . It appears that during the first year of its existence no less than 18 candidates have been initiated , and the brethren who attended the anniversary meeting on Saturday last
were unanimous iu their expressions of approval of the way in which the proceedings were conducted . The Lodge was opened soon after two o ' clock by the W . M . Bro . Amnion Beasley , who was supported by his Officers . The Secretary , Bro . J . Chambers Roe , P . M . 780 , read the minutes , which received confirmation . The Lodge was then opened up , aud Bro . T . C . Jenkin , who was a candidate lor the third
degree , was examined , entrusted , and in due course raised to the sublime degree . There were four candidates f ' . r passing—Bros . Mailing , Jones , Clarke , and Etionne . Tho examination of tnese candidates evidenced the advantages of a Lodge of Instruction , and what can be done where the powers that be insist ou those who are eligible for the second and third degrees making themselves efficient ere they present themselves for advancement . It is tho custom in

this Lodge to take each candidate separately , and Bro . Beasley , after he had passed Bro . Mailing , vacated tho chair in favour of Bro . Kingston P . M . 862 , who passed the second , —Bro . Jones . Bro . Roo did tbe like good office for Bro . Clarke , while Bio . Beasley resumed the chair , and gavo the benefit of the second degree to the fourth candidate . —Bro . Etienne . Tho report of the auditors was then read .
The Lodge had paid all expenses attending its formation , charges for furnituiv , rent , jewels , & c , and had a balance in hand . Tho Benevolent Fund was also iu a most satisfactory condition , a balance standing to its credit of nearly £ 10 . The auditors spoke in the highest terms of praise of the way in which the books wove kept , and of the manner in which tho accounts had beeu prepared . It is scarcely necessary
for us to add , tho report was unanimously adopted . The ballot was now taken for Messrs . Day , Nyo , and Wright , as candidates for our mysteries ; it resulted satisfactorily , and the three gentlemen were severally initiated into the Order . The heavy character of the day ' s proceedings was beginning to have its effect upon some of tho brethren , but tho installation of the W . M . for ensuing year had yet
to be carried out . This task was undertaken , and excellently performed , by Bro . Roe , who re-installed Bro . Beasley . The appointment of officers was then made .- —Bros . H . L . P . Kasner S . W ., Ban- J . W ., T . Brown P . M . Treasurer , J . Chambers Roe P . M . Secretary , J . Green S . D ., W . J . Compton J . D ., Tucker I . G ., Dyer D . C , Bourne A . D C , Delevante Organist , Harrison Tyler . The customary congratulations
were then given and acknowledged , several communications read aud discussed , after which the Lodge was closed . The meetings of this Lodgo are held afc tho Ealing Institnte , a compact little building in its way , but there is no accommodation for supplying the wants of the inner man j consequently , the brethren have to repair elsewhere for this attribute to Masonic enjoyment . The hostel of Bro .
Brownhe , by the by , no bad judge of what is requisite on those occasionsis where the brethren of tho West Middlesex most affect , and here a capital repast was provided . Nearly sixty sat down , and amph justice was done to the good things provided . On the removal of the cloth the customary toasts were briefly given ; the W . M . remarking that the esteem in which the brethren at the head of our Order
were universall y held rendered remarks of his unnecessary to intro . dnce the toasts to the notice of the brethren . Bro . Kingston , in giving tho health of the W . M ., spoke of the ability Bro . Beasley had displayed in conducting tho affairs of the Lodge , and dwelt on the satisfactory position the Locige had attained . The W . M ., in aoknow . ledgment , said he would lose no time in responding to the compli .
menta Bro . Kingston had paid him in proposing his health , compliments' which the brethren had so kindly endorsed . He was extremely grateful to the Great Architect of the Universe that , after his serious illness , he was able to perform his duties . He had tho will and the desire , and if he continued to have health and strength he would carry ont his duties to their satisfaction . In giving the
health of the Past Masters , Bro . Beasley said it was a pleasure to him to know that three Past Masters of other Lodges held office in the West Middlesex . In connection with tho several offices they held , they had admirably performed their duties , aud he had great pleasure in offering tho toast for the acceptance of tho brethren . Bro . Kingston returned thanks , with great pleasure . He was gratified
at the kind way in which he had always been received . Ho would always do all in his power to promote tho welfare and prosperity of the Lodgo . Bro . Brown thanked tho W . M . for associating his name with the toast ; if , as Treasurer , he had assisted the brethren , he was amply repaid by their kind expressions of approval . Bro . Roo might state , in reference to what tho Lodge had done , that both the
Worshipful Master aud he had determined , when they started , that then-Lodge should be second to none as regards tho character of its working . It bad always been his ambition to do his dacy thoroughly , aud he was glad to know some of the brethren thought he had succeeded . However , much of their success was due to the united efforts of the members . The health of the Installing Master was
next given aud replied to , and the VV . M . then proposed the health of the Initiates . The toast would embrace the names of seven brethren , four of these had been initiated at an emergency meeting , when there was no banquet , and three had joined them that evening ; he trusted all would prove a credit to the Lodge , and that what they had seen would lead them to expect great things to arise from their
association with our Institution . After replies from each of the brethren whose names were connected with the toast , Bro . Beasley gave the Visitors ; he had a kind word of welcome for each , and ex . pressed the pleasure all the members felt at being surrounded by so many . Bro . Major Walsh made a most forcible speech in reply ; he illustrated his remarks by several pertinent anecdotes , ancl expresse I
the great gratification he felt at being present . Bros . Phillips aud Morgan also addressed a few words , eulogistic of the way in which the business of the Lodge had been conducted , and expressing gratification at the high position it had so soon reached . The Officers then received their meed of praise , and the Masonic Press , coupled with the names of Bros . W . W . Morgan ancl Massey , was next ; offered . Bro .
