M . was called to tho chair , and the Lodge having been opened in the second degree , Bro . Davis presented to
him Bro . H . W . Ruff S . W . and W . M . elect , to receive from him the benefits of installation . After the nsnal preliminaries , a Board of Installed Masters was formed , and Bro . RufF was placed in the chair of K . S . as Worshipfnl Master of the Eastern Star Lodgo for the ensuing year . He appointed his Officers as follows : —Bros . M . Ayres S . W ., Wardell J . W ., Howard RufF S . D ., Macklin J . D ., Davis
Treas ., Edinger Sec , Collier I . G ., Marriott D . C , and Speight Tyler . Bro . Hill then concluded the installation ceremony , delivering tho addresses in a most impressive and correct manner , and at the termination was rewarded with unanimous applause ; it is only justice to him to remark that such a demonstration was well deserved . There being no other business , the Lodge was closed in
due form nnd with solemn prayer , and the brethren adjourned to the banqnetting room , and when it was stated that the fare was served in Bro . Painter ' s best style , and for which the Ship and Turtle has long been famed , no more need be said on that head . At the conclusion of the repast , grace was sung by the professional
brethren—Wharton , Dutton and Hanson—who had been specially engaged for tho occasion . The W . M . said the first toast he had to propose was that of " The Queen , " and en these occasions it was nsnal to conple with it " The Craft , " which was done , followed by the National Anthem . The W . M . said tho next toast he had the
pleasure to propose was " The Most Worshipful the Grand Master his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales . " They all knew tho great interest he took in everything connected with Freemasonry , and therefore any comment upon tho toast was unnecessary . This , like the preceding , was enthusiastically responded to , and followed by " God Bless the Prince of Wales , " which was sung in exquisite style
by Bro . Hanson . The next toast was "The Pro Grand Master the Earl of Carnarvon ; the Deputy Grand Mnsfor Lord Skelmersdale ; nnd the rest of tho Grand Officers . " The W . M . said all the brethren knew how well they performed their duties , and therefore ho proposed the toast withont further comment . This likewise was drnnk cordially , nnd Bro . Wharton sang in first-rate style the old song
" Hearts of Oak . " Bro . Bonner I . P . M . said , it became his pleasing duty to propose tho next toast , which he might call the toast of the evening ; it was " The health of the Worshipful Master , " and very prond was be to see him in that position . The toast was well received , and the W . M . in reply said , after the very nattering remarks of their immediate Past Master , he hardly knew how to respond to
tho terms ho had been pleased to use towards him . He should only be too happy to do everything that he ought to do , and next year when ho had to givo up the chair ho hoped that he shonld be able to givo a good account , and to show them what ho had done . Ho conld assure them that he thanked them sincerely for the very kind manner in which they had received tho toast , believing as ho did that ho
possessed the goodwill of every member of the Lodge . He had then to propose "The health of Bro . Bonner the Immediate Past Master , " who had fulfilled the duties of the chair most creditably , had been most punctual in his attendance , and they all know tho great interest he took in the Lodge ; he asked them to give him a good reception , and an " Eastern Star fire . " He had now a pleasing duty to
perform , which was to present Bro . Bonner with a P . M . ' s jewel , and in attaching it to his breast said he was justly entitled to it , and he hoped ho might bo long spared to wear it . Tho jewel boro the following inscription : — " Presented Feb . 17 , 1880 , by tho brethren of the Eastern Star Lodgo No . 95 , to the Worshipfnl Brother Edwin Bonner W . M ., as a mark of esteem for tho zeal and
ability displayed by him as Worshipfnl Master 1879 . " Bro . Bonner I . P . M . said ho could scarcely find words to express his thanks to the brethren for their very handsome present ; he should wear it with pleasure as long as he lived , as coming from them . They were indeed a band of brothers , and when he received such a token from them , it expressed to him a thousand times its intrinsic value ;
he thanked them ono and all for the hononr they had conferred upon him . The W . M . said the next toast ho had to propose was the health of Bro . Hill , tho Installing Master ; he felt sure that it must have been a great treat to all who had the privilege of witnessing the manner in which he performed the ceremony of installation . Bro . Hill P . M . in reply said he thanked the W . M . most heartily for
the very flattering manner in which he had proposed the health of the Installing Master , and the members of the Lodge for the way in which they hadresponded to the toast . He conld assure them that it afforded him a great deal of pleasure , not only on that evening , bnt on other occasions to instal their W . M . It gave him peculiar pleasure to instal Bro . RufF , who carried with him their esteem
and regard ; ho felt assured that he would go through the duties of the Lodge with credit to himself and tho satisfaction of every member of it . He then , in very flattering terms , alluded to another pleasure he had that evening received in placing a collar of office on Bro . Collier . It was a red letter day in tho history of the Lodge , and ho hoped to havo tho privilege of installing him in tho chair . Tho P __ . '_ was tho next toast given , after which Bro . Hanson delighted

the members b y his rendering of Dibdin ' s "Tom Bowling . " Bro . Marriott and several othor Past Masters returned thanks , tho former had been a member of tho Lodgo over sinco 1845 . Tho W . M . said ho should propose tho next toast with a great amount of pleasure , as it was the health of tho Treasurer and Secretary . Bros . Davis and Edinger wero two of tho most energetic members of
the Lodgo . Bro . Davis said it afforded him much gratification to find that his services wero so much appreciated by tho members of tho Eastern Star Lodgo ; ho had been associated with tho Lodgo for twonty-two years , and after that lapse of time , it was gratifying to him to know that he had not lost thoir confidence ; but if iu tho course of twenty years they could not find out a man's worth thoy
would never find it out at all . He spent tho happiest moments of his life when assembled with his brethren ronnd the table of the Eastern Star Lodge , and ho would always take caro to afford them as much comfort as the funds wonld allow . Ho then in feeling terms alluded to tho death of ono of the Past Masters of tho Lodgo , whom they conld ill afford to lose , bnt it had pleased the Great Architect of tho
Universe to take him from them ; ho also remarked that ho found old ago was creeping upon him , and the late cold weather and fogs had nearly done him up , bnt he felt great pleasure in coming amongst them that evening , knowing that he possessed thoir confidence , or they would not havo elected him year after year their Treasurer , as they had done . Bro . Edinger also jocosely returned thanks for the honour they had
conferred npon him . Tho Visitors was the next toast given , to which several of them responded , and Bro . Thompson , in tho course of his observations , took occasion to refer to the manner in which Bro . Hill had performed the ceremony of installation , and remarked that after a somewhat lengthened career as a Mason , ho had never heard the
ritual more impressively or correctly given ; he thought tho members of the Eastern Star had reason to be proud of having so talented a brother amongst them . Some other toasts wero given , and the Tyler ' s toast brought a most interesting meeting to a close . The vocal arrangements were conducted b y Bros . Dntton , Hanson and Wharton .
