M . for the ne * xb meeting j he appointed his Officers in rotation , and gave notice that the ceremony of passing , with the explanation of the tracing board , wonld be rehearsed . Brothers Bull , Simpson F . M . Smith and Thwaites were elected members . A vote of thanks to the W . M . for fcho manner he had filled the ohair for the first time in this Lodge of Instruction was carried unanimously .
We mast sympathise with onr Brethren of the Aire and Calder Lodge , No . 458 , who have sustained a serious loss by the fire at the Market Hall , Goole , whioh took place on Wednesday last . It is not , fortunately , a frequent event to report—the destruction of a Freemasons' Lodge , bnt on
this occasion our brethren lost the whole of their furniture and fittings . The records of the Local Board were also destroyed , this loss being irreparable . We trust our Aire and Calder brethren will find a means of minimising what must necessarily be a temporary inconvenience .
At a meeting of the Okehampton Charity Trustees , on the 13 th inst ., plans were presented for a Masonio Hall , which it was proposed to erect at the corner of Station-road , if the Trustees would sell the laud . A letter was read from Mr . Jas . Reddaway , the W . M . of the Okehampton Lodge , asking fche Trustees to remember that the objects of Masonry were charitable , and to grant the land at a reasonable price . The Mayor said he had always thought that Masonry was more convivial than charitable . Conld Mr . Westcott tell him if
that was so ? The Mayor added that he hoped to see a church erected on this spot . Certainly the plans sent in by the architect ( Mr . Yeo ) looked very pretty on paper , but he did not admire the building for the site proposed . Mr . Paddon said he failed to see that the building wonld be an ornament to tbe spot . Mr . Westcott ; said he was glad the application had been made , as he thought others would follow who would like to acquire such a desirable site . Ultimately the matter was passed on to a o-jinmittea for their consideration and report .
On the 24 th inst . a supplementary bazaar in aid of the Scotch Masonio Benevolent Annuity Fund was opened in tha George A . Clark Town Halt Paisley . Sir Michael R . Shaw-Stewart , Bart ., in declaring the bazaar open wished to congratulate the two provinces of Renfrewshire and Argyleshire upon the great success which had attended their efforts at the recent bazaar at Edinburgh , With the
•xception only of the Grand Ledge , llenfrpwjhire and Argyle had paid into the treasury the largest sum— £ 1 , 860 . When thoy reflected on the money that would be disbursed among Masons who were either in penury , sickness , or distress , he felt they had cause to thank the ladies for their efforts in aid of the fund for tbe relief of necessitous and indigent Masons . He hoped tbe present effort of the
Lodge of Renfrew aud Argyle to further increase the fund would meet with every success . In conclusion , Sir Michael made feeling reference to the death of Miss Wotherspoon , of Maxwellton House , Paisley , who hnd takeu an active part in the Edinburgh bazaar . Ho was sure thoso present would join with him in expressing to the mourning parents and family their respectful sympathy in their sorrow .

Faithful Begg delivered an oration on Burns , referring particularly to his connection with Freemasonry .
