Pro and Deputy Grand Masters , and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Robert C . Read , I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health cf the W . M ., " said he was sure" the brethren had taken the proper course in electing Bro . James Smith , the J . W . of the loelge , to the high and impoitant office of W . M . To dilate properly on the qualities of Bro . Smith required an eloquence which he ( Bro .
Rcael ) was not master of ; but hc might say that since Bro . Smith ' s initiation that brother had been such an excellent Mason as well as a man that it was impossible the brethren coulel forget him . By his working , hU assiduity , and his kindly temperament , hc had endeared himself to all the brethren , ami tie firmly believed that at the end of llro . Ottaway was not present at the banquet , pressure of business calling him away immediately after the closing of the lodge . The brethren who responded expressed the hope
that they would become good Masons , to which end they would exert themselves to the utmost . Bros . Bower , Stock , Coeik , and Massey replied to the toast of " The Visitors . " The W . M ., in proposing "The Health of the Past Masters , " said that a great deal of gratitude was due to those brethren for the kindness they at all times exhibited in assisting in the wotk of the lotlge . That kindness hael been
again shown that evening , when Past Masters filled various offices . It must be a gratification to those brethren that their works were . appreciated , anil he was sure they ever would be , for the brethren ' could not forget that however humble thc office that was vacant , any Past Master , however old he might le , filled it , anti , ' showed the same efficiency in his duties as if he was a junior member striving
with all his might to attain the chair . Bro . Robert C . Reetl , I . P . M ., in reply , sail ! he should always endeavour to support the chair , and woultl ahvays be reaely to take any office which might be vacant . Bro . Spooner , P . He was extremely gratified at the way in which he had been received , and he was pleased to see the
lodge in such a prosperous condition . He thought it was going on in a fair way to become one of the best lodges in the Craft . The woikinghe had witnessed afforded him much pleasure . Bro . Elsam had conducted the ceremonies of installation in a very able manner , and Bro . Read had certainly contributed very much to the success of the chair by performing his duties in a highly creditable way . He should always be ready to enhance the work of the lodge , and he hoped he should live many years to see the

lodge flourish and the brethren spending such a deli ghtful evening of haimony and good fellowship as they were then engaging in . He had met many kind old friends there . Bros . Robinson , Davage , Whitley , Wagner , anel Elsam , besides several otht-r ? , brethren whom he had known a great number of ye ; ars . Whenever he had been at the lodge he had endeavoured to his utmost
to promote its interests , anil the brethren hail always been kind enough to express their gootl fee-lings for it . It gave him infinite pleasure to meet his oltl friends , and he trusted that as long as they were willing to le-ce-ive him with liltsame kindness as they hail that cveving , he should never hesitate for a moment to come among them . He was the only one of the fathers of the lodge present , anti it was
extremely pleasing to him to see so many young members joining the lotlge . He believed Bro . Smith , W . M ., to be the right man in the right place , anil that under his direction thc lodge would goon prosperously . Bro . R . T . Elsan , P . M ., for whom there tvere loutl calls , saitl he shoul . l have been hapjsy to sit down if the brethren had not persisted in calling upon him . He was the Junior P . M . of thc lotlge ,
and it was a very good feature in the lodge to have so many P . Ms . There were some , however , who were not then present , but speaking for himself it gave him great satisfaction to be there , and to have had the privilege of installing the VV . M . He did not expect he should ever have the opportunity again , because if the W . M . did not perform the ceremony , the I . P . M ., Bro . Read , would . He
should always be pleased , nevertheless , to assist in anything that might be asktd of him , more especially when it woulel contribute to promoting the interests of the lodgr . The W . M . in giving the toast of " The Masonic Charities " saitl , they must be excellent charities , or they woultl not be so well supported as lhey were . He hoped to he better acquainted with them than he was at present , anti whatever
he coultl do he shoulil he happy to tin for them . Bro . Davage , P . M ., Treasurer , D . C . anil W . S . replied . Clririty was tlie great principle eif Freemasonry . Me had he-en several times Steward for the Masonic Institutions , ancl had had an opportunity of seeing their work . There was no brother round the table who woulel at any time lie unwilling tn support them or to pay them a visit . They were
open elaily for the inspection of any brother , whether he contributed to them or not ; and he begged that the brethren woultl go anil see how well they were conducted . His own experience of them was that they were conducted perfectly and in the true spirit of Freemasonry . He was very pleased to hear that the W . M . would become a Steward ; and for himself he might say he was highly
gratified when that privilege was accorded to him . The brethren of the Jordan Lodge had frequently contributed liberally , and he had no doubt that the brethren would support the prestige of this old and ancient lotlge . Bro . Robinson replied as Secretary , and Bro . Davage as
Treasurer , to the toast of " Treasurer and Secretary , " and thc brethren after the other toasts hatl been disposed of , drank the Tyler's toast . Bro . Simpson hoped that the bill which was to take place would be of great benefit to the Institutions . The brethren enjoyed some excellent singing during the evening .
