well aware that Bro . Payne had ably carried out the duties of W . M . during the past year . He had initiated no less than 11 members into the lodge , all of whom would prove a credit to it , and most of whom had signified their intention of working by regularly attending a lodge ot instruction . He was certain they would heartily drink to the health of the I . P . M ., who had , by his hard work during his year of
office , ably sustained the credit of the lodge . Bro . E . Payne , I . P . M ., in reply , tendered his sincere thanks for the cordial manner in which the toast had been received , and for the many kindnesses he had experienced during his term of office . He also thanked them for the handsome jewel presented to him , and which he would always wear , not on account of its value , but from the fact
that it carried with it the good wishes of the brethren . Since he first entered the lodge , about twelve years ago , he had taken great interest in it , and he assured them that it would continue to receive his cordial support , and he would do his best to assist the W . M . in the chair . In reply to "The Initiate , " Bro . Mark Kinghorne said that on the present occasion they would hardly expect
anything from him but brevity , which was the soul of wit . He was very pleased to be among them , and to have been initiated into the brotherhood . That their confidence was not misplaced he would endeavour to prove , not by words , but by actions . Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . S . B . Middx ., in responding for " The Visitors , " after sincerely thanking the lodge for the hospitality shown to the visiting brethren , said that it had
afforded him considerable pleasure to see Bro . Larter installed in the chair . It had been his privilege to be present at many of the installation meetings of that lodge , and the brethren who had preceded the W . M . in the chair had attained a high standard that would be difficult to equal , and more difficult to excel . He again thanked them for the right hearty welcome he had received , and sincerely trusted the new year would be a happy and prosperous
one . Bro . C . Weeden , W . M . S 13 , also responded , and after thanking the W . M . for associating his name with the toast , said that it was always a pleasure to him to visit that lodge . The brethren might congratulate themselves that they had a Worshipful Master in the chair who would carry out his
duties to the credit of the lodge , and to their satisfaction . " The Past Masters , " " The Masonic Charities , " and "The Officers of the Lodge" were afterwards duly honoured , at the conclusion of which , the Tyler's toast brought a pleasant and profitable evening to a close . During the proceedings , some excellent music was performed under the able direction of Bro . W . Wright .
BAYARD LODGE ( No . 1615 )—A meeting was held on Monday , the 31 st ult ., at 33 , Golden-square , W ., when there were present Bros . Col . G . Blunt , W . M . ; Capt . Graham Moore , S . Smith Thomas , Knowles , Churchill , Smith , Casson , Turnor , Goodwin , and others .
The minutes having been read , the S . W ., Bro . Capt . Moore , was duly installed as W . M . by Bro . Col . Blunt , the ceremony being admirably performed . The W . M . then appointed and invested the officers as follows : Bros . Sauerbrey , S . W . ; Bamber , J . W . ; Haldane , Sec ; Fisher , S . D . ; Scott , J . D . ; Col . Burney , D . C . ; Rev . D . DUKE OF ALBANY LODGE ( No . 1963 ) . — The fourth anniversary of this flourishing lodge was held at the Albert Palace , Battersea , on Thursday , the 20 th ult ., and was in every respect an unqualified success . Since its foundation in 1 SS 2 it has made a progress almost unprecedented , both in the increase of its members and the quality of its work . Each Worshipful Master has striven
to equal , if not to eclipse , his predecessor in the performance of the beautiful symbolic and ceremonial Degrees of the Craft , and we were therefore not the least surprised on our visit at the fifth installation meeting to see the admirable manner in which the new Master was placed in the chair . The outgoing Master , Bro . Stokoe , whose diligent and successful work as a schoolmaster in the parish of Battersea
has gained the approbation of all who know him , culminated a most prosperous year of office by installing his successor , this being done with a precision and perfectness rarely equalled . It must be very gratifying to its founders to find that the lodge is taking root so firmly , and that it is fast becoming one of the institutions of the parish of Battersea . Many
of its members are prominent in all its parochial councils ; and their connection with the lodge will cement fiiendship and heal differences made and encountered without its portals . The new VVorshipful Master , a learned brother well skilled in all the landmarks and ritual of the Order , took office at the foundation of the lodge as Senior Deacon , and
has gone on , step by step , to his present exalted position , winning the affection and respect of all his brethren . During his year of office Bro . Vincent T . Murche will carry on the lodge with energy , zeal , and ability ; and his effective , vigorous initiation of no less than four candidates , immediately after his installation , augurs well for the diffusion of Masonic light and instruction among the members of the
lodge . VVe heartily wish for him plenty of work , and for his officers plenty of enthusiasm . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . Voisey , the first Master and founder of the lodge , and were very satisfactory . We cannot refrain from giving special praise to Bro . Voisey for his admirable rendering of the bass solo in the anthem . A superb and recherche banquet was splendidly served by Bro . Todman , of the Albert

James , and proving unanimous , they , with Mr . P . G . Thompson , already approved of , were duly initiated . Bro . Bell was then passed , and Bros . Harris , Budd , and Dorrell were raised . To those who know how well the
work is always done at this grand old lodge , it will be sufficient to say that it was , as usual , most solemn and impressive , both W . M . and officers being perfect in their work . The vote of condolence will be forwarded to the widow . The lodge being closed , the brethren adjourned to the banquet , provided by Mrs .
