ANNUAL SUMMER BANQUET OF THE MERCHANT NAVY LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 781 .
The members of this flourishing lodge of instruction held their annual summer banquet on Thursday , the iGth ult ,, at Bro . Benningfield ' s , The Crown , Broxbourne . Proceeding thither , as per usual , in Bro . Rochester ' s four-horse
brakes , and in charming weather—rendered the more so by the over-night ' s downpour , and the delicious north-east breezes , —they had one of the most enjoyable rides it has ever been our lot to chronicle . Making a cross-country journey of nearly 24 miles , they had barely two miles of main road until reaching Cheshunt , where the second stoppage was made . Having dived into Endmonton for
the first stage of refreshing the inner man—and woman , even this magnificient drive came to an end , and at 2 o ' clock the Crown was reached in safety , where , after divesting themselves of any particles of dust which might have adhered to the outer and inner man , a stroll through the beautiful grounds gave an unusual zest for the choice dainties which were in store for them . At the appointed time , 3 o ' clock , the chair was occupied
by Bro . J . H . Pringle , W . M . of the Merchant Navy Lodge , and among the large and influential gathering of brethren and ladies by whom he was supported , we noticed Bro . P . M . Robinson ; Bro . P . M . Ould , Mrs . and Miss Ould ; Bro . Gaisford , S . VV . 7 S 1 , Mrs . Gaisford , Mrs . Gaisford , junr ., and Mrs . Chambers ; Bro . Bull , S .
