G . LODQE OF MANITODA . It appears from the Daily Free Press of Manitoba that the Grand Lodge of Manitoba , which , at its foundation in 1 S 75 had only three lodges with a membership of 203 , had increased in 1 SS 0 to eleven lodges with 360 members , while it can boast now of as many as 31 lodges with an aggregate membership of 124 G . Such an amazing increase as this appears to have greatly disconcerted the Ultramontane journal La Verite , of Quebec .
MARK MASONRY IN BRITISH BURMAH . It appears from the Minutes of Proceedings of Prov . G . Lodge on the 17 th Sept . and 20 th Nov . last that for some time previous to the close of last year Mark Masonry in this distant province had fallen into a sad condition . No
meetings of Prov . G . Lodge were held , and the subordinate lodges enjoyed little better than a nominal existence . Steps , however , appear to have been taken at the meetings referred to with a view to restoring the degree to its former flourishing position , the most important being the recommendation of Bro . the Rev . J . Fairclough for appointment
The Creft Abroad.
as Prov . G . Master , This recommendation has since been acted upon by the authorities at home , and the rev . brother now figures in the " Cosmo , " in the list of Prov . G . Masters of this Degree , as its chief in British Burmah . VVe trust the future ' in store for Mark Masonry here may turn out as satisfactory as the most enthusiastic Mark Masons can desire .
MASONRY IN SWITZERLAND . VVe learn from a passage quoted in La Cliainc d' Union for last month from the Swiss Masonic journal Lit Latomia , of Geneva , that on the 7 th December last a meeting of the lodges in Geneva was held in the electoral
palace , at which warm clothing was distributed by the brethren to no less than 400 children . There were present some 4000 people on the occasion , and so touched were they all with the event that a sum of 1200 francs was there and then collected for the purpose of organising a second distribution of a similar character .
GRAND LODGE OK BRITISH COLUMBIA . From the latest statistics we have seen of this Grand Lodge , it seems there are six lodges on the roll , with an aggregate membership of 301 , being an increase of eight over the previous return . The receipts for the year were over 691 dollars , raising the total fund to 05 G dollars , while
the disbursements exceeded 710 dollars . M . W . Bro . Edgar Crow Baker was re-elected Grand Master at the annual meeting ( in June , 1 SS 4 ) , and Bro . Edward C . Neufelder was elected Grand Secretary . There does not seem to have been a report on correspondence submitted , but the Grand Master's address must have been a long one .
SERMON AT BENARES . We have been favoured with a copy of a sermon preached by Bro . the Rev . A . H . F . tty , M . A ., P . D . G . Chaplain , Bengal and British Burmah , and P . P . G . Chaplain ( Mark ) of Bengal , in St . Mary ' s Church , Benares , on the 27 th December , and printed at the request of the brethren of
the Lodge Fraternity and Perseverance , No . 1746 , Benares . The sermon leads admirably , and must have been listened to with pleasure by those to whom it was addressed . The collection after the sermon was on behalf of the funds of the Bengal Masonic Association for educating the children of indigent Freemasons , and the profits of the sale of the sermon will be devoted to the same object .
THE A . AND A . SCOTTISH RITE IN CINCINNATI . A grand gathering of the members of the A . and A . Rite was held in Cincinnati , on the 2 Cth February , when over 15 , 000 dollars were subscribed towards the 50 , 000 dollars proposed to be raised towards the new Temple to be erected in place of that destroyed by fire in December last . It should be mentioned that the members assembled during
the two previous days for the transaction of business , conferring the 32 ° and other Degrees , while on Thursday a grand banquet was held , at which everything appears to have passed off admirably . The moving spirit would seem to have been Bro . E . T . Carson , to whom a Templar costume was presented as a mark of respect , in lieu of that
which had been destroyed by fire in December . Bro . Carson also donned the uniform at the request of those present , and fulfilled a part of his duties in connection with the A . and A . Rite in K . T . Costume , no one seeming to concern himself much about the unappropriateness of the latter under the circumstances .

widows and children of deceased brethren , Dist . G . Lodge was closed in due form and harmony . That the financial position of the Dist . G . Lodge is satisfactory may be judged from the fact that the Dist . G . Treasurer ' s statement of account , appended to the minutes , shows a balance to its credit of upwards of £ 432 .

LANCASTER . —Garnett Council ( No . 8 ) . — A ' regular meeting of the above Council took place on the 30 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , when the Degrees of St . Laurence the Martyr , Knight of Constantinople , and Grand High Priest were conferred on Bros . E . Armitage , Trinity College , Cambridge , and F . C . Turner , Lancaster , by the W . M ., Bro . C . H . Garnett , assisted by his officers : Hy . Longman , S . W . ; E . Simpson , J . W . ; R . Stanton ,
Sec . ; T . Atkinson , Treas . ; W . Hall , J . D . ; B . Gregson , I . G .: and A . K . Allinson , Tyler , after which the election of W . M . for the ensuing year took place , and in consequence of Bro . Longman being desirous that the J . W . should precede him , Bro . Simpson was unanimously elected W . M . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the King ' s Arms , and sat down to and enjoyed an excellent dinner .

Steps , however , appear to have been taken at the meetings referred to with a view to restoring the degree to its former flourishing position , the most important being the recommendation of Bro . the Rev . J . Fairclough for appointment

as Prov .

R . C . Bishop was re-elected to that office , and the standing Committee having been partly elected by the D . G . Lodge , and partly nominated by the D . G . Dist . G . Secretary having been instructed to communicate with the W . M . ' s of six of the lodges requesting them each to nominate a brother as D . G . Steward , and notice of motion having been given for the next Quarterly Communication to extend the benefits of the Fund of Benevolence to the
widows and children of deceased brethren , Dist . G . Lodge was closed in due form and harmony . That the financial position of the Dist . G . Lodge is satisfactory may be judged from the fact that the Dist . G . Treasurer ' s statement of account , appended to the minutes , shows a balance to its credit of upwards of £ 432 .
