The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , and the roll of lodges called over , the D . G . Treasurer submitted the statement of account for the year . From this it appeared that the receipts , including the balance of £ 249 3 s . id . brought forward from the previous

The expenditure , including a grant of £ 150 to the EducationalFund , £ 5 $ is . for District Grand Lodge regalia , and £ 40 for clerical assistance , reached a total of £ 294 ios . gd ., the balance remaining in hand being £ i 6 S 12 s . iod . The report having been accepted , that of the Board of General Purposes was read . From this it appears that there are 24 lodges in the district , with a total membership o £ 1142 brethren , or an

Two new lodges—the Frere , No . 20 S 9 , Aliwal North , and the Frontier , No . 2092 , Cathcart , had been consecrated during the year , and generally the condition o £ things was satisfactory . The Board recommended the formation of a Reserve Fund , and that towards that object a certain per centage of the balance in hand—which , after discussion , was fixed at 25 per cent ., or one-fourth—should be annually set aside . The
report as a whole was subsequently adopted . Letters of regret at their inability to be present at the meeting were read from several brethren , and in the case of Bro . G . P . Perks , D . D . G . M ., a resolution of sympathy with him in his illness , and a hope for his speedy restoration to health , was passed unanimously . being that a fee of 5 s . was fixed for registering lodge byelaws , and one of 2 s . Gd . for registering amendments to each bye-law ; and that the W . M . of every lodge shall annually send in a return of its members made up to the 31 st December , together with the dues and fees payable to D . G . Lodge , subject to a penalty for infringement of any part of this law of one guinea . District Grand Lodge having adjourned till the evening ,
business was then resumed , and it was agreed that tivo guineas should be the fee payable for a provisional chapter . Bro . W . C . Smith , P . M . 1 S 00 , having been unanimously elected D . G . Treasurer , a discussion ensued as to the amount of the honorarium that should be annually paid to the D . G . Secretary for his services , and various sums having been suggested , it was ultimately agreed that the amount should be £ 60 per annum , Bro . Sissing ' s services
as D . G . Sec . being the theme of universal commendation . It was also agreed that £ 30 should be paid towards his expenses to the officer appointed by the D . G . M . to visit and inspect the lodges in the district . The following were appointed and invested as District Grand Officers for the year , namely : — Bro . James Kemsley Dist . G . S .
