Bro . General Albert Pike , U . S . A ., for his kindness in presenting to it , through Bro . W . J . Hughan , P . G . S . D . England , a lithographed fac-simile of the Engraved List of Lodges in 1725 , which , on account of its rarity and great value , the brethren highly appreciate and most gratefully accept . " These were ordered to be signed by the W . M .,
Wardens , Treasurer , Secretary , and Director of Ceremonies . The W . iM presented to the lodge library a MS . book containing a full record of all the recent proceedings resulting from the researches of these distinguished brethren , and Bro . W . J . Hughan , with copies of the papers on the subject drawn up and read to the lodge by the last-named brother and himself . He also presented another copy to be
placed with the lodge archives in the iron chest . The W . M . reminded the brethren that at the centenary celebration on the 7 th of last October , Bro . Hughan had informed them of the discovery of a medal in America , commemorative of the dedication of a Masonic Hall in Bath , in 1 S 19 , by the Duke of Sussex , of which he produced a rubbing , received only on that morning . This was quite
new to all present , and such being the case , it was supposed that it was unique , no other specimen being known . The publicity thus given led subsequently to the discovery of another in the possession of Bro . E . L . Hill , P . M . of 906 , who was unavoidably absent from the meeting . The W . M . concluded by reading the following letter , and handing the medal to the Treasurer to be deposited with the archives in the iron chest : —
4 , Wood Street , Bath , January 4 th . Dear Dr . Hopkins , I have very much pleasure in presenting to the Royal Cumberland Lodge a medal , in which I am informed the lodge has interest , as making one link in the records of the past . It is my happiness to have had the power of

's of the future energy and ability tocarryithegrandoldlodge safelythrough all the vicissitudes of time . The medal originall y belonged to Bro . Jones , who was formerly a saddler in Bridge-street , and I believe a member of the Sussex Lodge . He had it
at the laying of the corner stone [ of Freemasons' Hall , York-street . Many years since , he gave it to his son-inlaw , Bro . Appleby , P . M . 906 . At the death of my highly esteemed friend Bro . Appleby , his widow presented it to me , inmemoryof a friendship which had existed between her husband and myself for over fifty years . I need scarcely say that Mrs . working tools being presented by the J . W . The usual proclamations being made , the lodge was closed with peace , love , and harmony . The installation meeting of the above lodge was held in the same rooms on the 4 th inst . There was a fair attendance . The lodge having been opened with the usual formalities , Bro . Aldous , S . W ., the W . M . elect , was presented for installation by Bro . H . Longman , P . M . and Sec , Prov .
if' n * Y ' ' Lane , and the ceremony was ably performed by Bro . Geo . Taylor , the Worshipful Master . The newlymstalled Master appointed and invested the following brethren as his officers for the ensuing year : Bros . George Taylor , I . P . M . ; J . E . Hannah , S . W . and Treasurer ; John Cutts , J . W . ; H . Longman , P . M ., & c , Secretary ; AW . Kershaw , S . D . ; A . Stanley , J . D . ; H . C . Moore , I . G . ; and A . K . Allinson , Tyler .
n . n £ havi ' ng been closed , the brethren adjourned to the County Hotel , where an excellent banquet , capitally served , was partaken of . The newly-installed Master , Bro . Aldous , presided , supported by Bros . P . M . 's Geo . Taylor , Henry Longman , A . Sheriff , J . Fenton , and others , and the visitors , amongst whom were Bros , the Rev . J . Kirby Turner , Chap . Hesketh Lodge , Fleetwood ; J . Atkinson , - W . M . 281 ( Freemason ); Edward Simpson , P . M .. P .
rrov . U . Purs . ; and John Hatch , P . M . and Sec . 281 . 1 he duties pertaining to the vice-chair were ably and efficiently discharged by Bro . Hannah , S . W . and Treasurer . On the conclusion of the banquet the Chairman gave "The Health of the Queen , " and " "The Prince and Princess of Wales and the rest of the Royal Family , " in succession , arid which were received with the usual honours . Bro . Sheriff gave the toast of "The Officers of Grand Lodge , " and in the
course of his remarks regretted that Bro . Dr . Moore , P . G . S . B . of E ., & c , was unable on account of illness to be present on that occasion , and respond to the toast , as had been his custom for some years back . Before the toast was honoured the Chairman read a letter bearing Bro . Moore's signature , in which he " congratulated Bro . Aldous on his accession to the Master ' s chair , and wished him to convey to the lodire his best wishes for
its continued success . " The Chairman added they must all regret Bro . Dr . Moore's absence , and especially the cause , for they might feel well assured that if it had been possible Bro . Dr . Moore would have been amongst them . Every brother in that lodge who had the p leasure of his acquaintance could not but appreciate the kindness always shown towards them , and they must all sympathise with him 111 his severe and protracted illness . If he was not with
them in person he would be in thought . Bro . Hannah said he had seen Bro . Moore just before coming to the lodge , and he wished him to state to the brethren that he felt a little better . He regretted his inability to be amongst them , and above all , that it was almost the first time since he passed the chair that he had been unable to officiate as Installing Master . Bros . Fenton and Longman also paid a warm tribute to Bro . Moore , and spoke of the active
interest he had taken in Masonry . The toast was then received with the customary honours . Bro . Fenton gave the toast of " The Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " speaking in unqualified terms of the ability and courtesy of Bro . the Earl of Lathom , R . W . Prov . G . M ., and coupling- therewith the names of Bros . Edmund Simpson , Prov . G . Purs ., and Bro . H . Longman , Prov . G . S . of W ., both of whom responded . In proposing the toast of
1 he Worshipful Master , " Bro . Sheriff said it required few words from him , but carried with it its own commendation . During the past year , as S . W ., their newly-installed Master had evinced such an interest in the working of the lod ge as induced them to think that in the future he would maintain the good name which the Rowley Lodge had hitherto held in the town , and that at the end of his year of office he would hand it over to his successor in the
same efficient state in which he found it . The toast was received with musical honours . Bro . Aldous met with a hearty reception on rising to respond , and thanked the brethren for their kind reception of the toast , which had been so well proposed by Bro . Sheriff . He confessed that he accepted the office of Worshipful Master with some degree of hesitation , especially of such a lodge as the Rowley Lodge , where everything was done decently and in
order , and as it should be . The office was not to be lightly entered upon , for , like most other offices , it entailed a certain amount of responsibility , and which brought with it a certain amount of work . He should be sorry if he had not some work—not too much , of course—as he should like his year of office to bear some fniit . They must excuse any shortcomings , and bear in mind their late Master had been anything but a Master in name , but one who had qualified
tumseltto tulhl all his duties . He ( the Chairman ) could not hope to , and did not promise , the same excellence as Bro . Taylor , but he would try to follow closely in his footsteps , and emulate him as much as possible . To do so entirely was too much to hope . This much he would promise them —that he would do his best . He thought he had good officers to aid him , and had every confidence in their support ; so that with their assistance he hoped the working of
the lodge would go as smoothly as possible . In conclusion the Chairman gave " The Health of the Immediate Past Master as Installing Officer , " complimenting him highly on the efficiency he had displayed in going through the ceremony , and speaking of him as one of the very few Past Masters of the Rowley Lodge who had installed their successors . The toast was enthusiastically received . Bro . Taylor briefly replied , and said he should have been much
better pleased if Bro . Moore had been able to perform it . Seeing he was not , he thought they ought not to go outside the lodge for assistance in that respect , and , under the circumstances , thinking it was a portion of his duties , he bad endeavoured to fulfilit to the best of his ability . He knew he had not gone through the ceremony so wefi as they had been accustomed to hear it , but they must take the will for the deed . Bro . Hatch gave " The Healths of the
Wardens , " to which Bros . Hannah and Cutts briefly responded . Bro . Fenton proposed " The Healths of the Treasurer and Secretary , " and referred to the admirable way in which the duties pertaining to these two offices were carried out . Bro . Hannah , in responding , spoke of the lodge being in a favourable and improving financial position ; and Bro . Longman gave a resume of the chief business which had
been before the lodge during the past year . The toast of " The Newly-invested Officers , the Junior Officers , " was abl y given by Bro . Simpson , who gave them some good advice as to their working in the lodge , and which was acknowledged by Bros . Kershaw , Stanley , and H . C . Moore . The toast of " The Visitors " was entrusted to Bro , Hannah , who gave them a hearty welcome , coupling

working tools being presented by the J .
