M . proposed the usual loyal and Masonic
toasts with that natural eloquence which has given so much satisfaction to the members of the lodge in the various ceremonies he has had to perform during his past year of office . Bro . H . Birdseye , in replying to the toast of the P . M . ' s , took the opportunity of announcing that Bro . H . Muggeridge ' s April festival of the Stability Lodge of
Instruction would take place at Masons' Hall Tavern , Coleman-street , on Friday , the 29 th of April , and as Bro . Henry Muggeridge was one of the founders of the Panmure Lodge , he hoped all the brethren who could do so would support him on that occasion . The lodge meeting was adjourned to the third Saturday in November .
WESTBOURNE LODGE ( No . 733 ) . — The March meeting of this flourishing lodge was held on Thursday week , the 17 th inst ., at Lord's Hotel , St . M ., opened the lodge in due form at five o'clock , when the minutes of the installation meeting
in February were read and confirmed . Bros . Drake , Gurr , Warren , and Sothcott were then raised to the Sublime Degree , and subsequently Mr . George Jennings was initiated , both ceremonies being performed by Bro . Hallett in a masterly and efficient manner . The election of Treasurer was then proceeded with , the result being unanimously in favour of Bro . John Welford , I . P . M .
Lodge was then closed in perfect harmony , and the brethren adjourned to supper . At its conclusion , and after grace , the usual Royal and Masonic toasts were given and loyally received . Bro . C . A . Cottebrune , P . G . P ., having replied on behalf of " The Grand Officers , " Bro . Welford proposed "The Health of the Worshipful Master , " and , in doing so , complimented Bro . Hallett on the very skilful
manner in which he had performed his duties ; and , considering this was his first attempt , the lodge had every reason to congratulate themselves upon having so efficient a Master . Bro . Hallett having briefly acknowledged the toast , proposed that of " The Initiate , " who , in due course , responded . The next toast was that of " The Visitors , " who were ably represented in reply by Bro . C . J . Craig . In proposing the toast of "The Past Masters , " Bro . Hallett
tendered to those worthy brethren his sincere thanks for the kindness they had always shown , and to whom he owed his present position . Bro . Welford having replied , the W . M . proposed , in eulogistic terms , "The Officers of the Lodge , " which elicited a few words , in acknowledgment , from Bros . Hitchcock , Arrowsmith , S . R . Walker , and others . Between the toasts some capital singing was given by Bros , Hart , Reece , Wickens , and VV . Drew .
CITY OF LONDON LODGE ( No . 901 ) . —A meeting of the above lodge was held on Monday , the 21 st inst ., at the Guildhall Tavern . Present : Bros . Beaumont , W . M . ; Geo . A . Cundy , S . Bros . J . L . I'ord , Pritchard , Gross , Iaylor , lorry , and Brittan were raised to the Third Degree . The lodge then voted twenty guineas to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , to be placed on the Worshipful Master ' s list , and adjourned to banquet , at which seventy brethren parcipated .
SPHINX LODGE ( No . 1329 ) . —A regular meeting of this lodge was held at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , on Saturday , the 19 th inst . The lodge was opened at five in the afternoon by the W . M ., Bro . B . R . Bryant , and there were present during the meeting Bros .

1426 . After confirmation of the minutes , Bro . C . F . Cockle was passed to the F . C . Degree , and Mr . Alfred William Hammond was duly initiated into the Order . The ceremonies were admirably performed , and the work of the W . M ., which was concluded by an excellent delivery of the charge in the A . P . Degree , well deserved the encomiums of mem-Masonic Charitable Institu
bers and visitors alike . The - tions were remembered , and the W . M . and Bro . Past Master Bickerton agreed to act as Stewards respectively for the ensuing festival of Boys and Girls . Notices of motion for lodge grants in behalf of both lists were made , and after the proposition of further candidates the lodge was closed .
The brethren banqueted in the dining room adjoining the Temple , where a very liberal repast was served . The viands were excellent , and the service reflected great credit on the caterer , Bro . George Venables , under whose management the Surrey Masonic Hall appears to be now flourishing . The Stewards , Bros . Forbes and Permewan , vied with each other in their endeavours to make members and guests comfortable , and they well succeeded . After
the cloth had been cleared and the usual loyal toasts honoured , the company were invited by the W . M . to enjoy themselves without formality , and the succeeding toasts were interspersed with songs and recitations in rapid succession . In response to " Ihe Visitors , " most flattering comments were made by one and all in regard to the good working of the W . M . and his officers in lodge , and their subsequent and most hospitable reception . The Tyler's toast brought the evening to a conclusion at a reasonably early hour .
METROPOLITAN LODGE ( No . 1507 ) . —The last meeting of the season was held at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street , on Wednesday , the 16 th inst ., under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . W . NORWICH . —Perseverance Lodge ( No . 213 ) . — The monthly meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Club , No . 23 , St . Giles-street , on Tuesday , the 15 th inst . Bro . Geo . Kersey , W . M ., in a most impressive manner , performed the ceremony of initiating Mr . Breeze ( a Lewis ) and Mr . Baldwin into Freemasonry , the charge afterwards being given by the I . P . M ., Bro . J . K . H . Watson .
The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting room , where a recherche' supper had been prepared in Bro . E . Wilkins' usual style . The remainder of the evening was afterwards spent in a very pleasant manner , under the gavel of its genial Worshipful Master , Bro . Kersey . In giving the toast of "The Queen and the Craft , " the W . M . expressed the feeling of condolence of the lodge with Her Majesty for
the loss sustained by her in the lamentable catastrophe which had occurred causing the death of the Emperor of Russia , and expressed a feeling of regret at the event . Bro . O . D . Ray , in responding to the toast of " The Masonic Charities , " ably advocated the cause of the same , and expressed a hope for the success of a scheme recently proposed for the formation in this lodge of a benevolent fund for its especial use . Several very excellent songs were sung during the evening .

FOLKESTONE . —Temple Lodge ( No . 558 ) . — On Tuesday , the 1 st inst ., the members of this lodge assembled at the Town Hall for the purpose of installing Bro . H . A . Holbein as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . The ceremony was ably and impressively performed by the Immediate Past Master , Bro . Klatt . The lodge officers elected for the year were as follows : Bros . VV . Francis ,

with a Past Master ' s jewel , an honour which has not been conferred on any member of this lodge for many years . The pleasing duty of making the presentation devolved upon Bro . H . Stock , who most gracefully performed the task . After the lodge business had terminated , the brethren adjourned to the Clarendon Hotel , where the installation banquet was provided by Bro . Host Wilton in a manner

The Temple Lodge is one of the most prosperous among the many lodges now flourishing in this county . During the past few years it has been greatly invigorated , the number of members has more than doubled , and the funds have increased in a similar degree .

The lodge was then closed in harmony at 4 . 30 p . m ., and
the brethren adjourned ( for special reasons ) to the Steamer Hotel , where Bro . C . Cardwell had laid a most sumptuous repast , to which ample justice was done . On the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were gone through . In responding to the toast of " The Provincia Grand Lodge , " Bro . Capt . Whitehead thanked the brethren of the Ilesketh Lodge , in suitable terms , for the
kind and hospitable manner in which he had been received on this and other occasions , and urged the brethren to a continuance of that good feeling which appeared to exist in the lodge . Bro . Gardner was likewise called upon to respond . He said it was unnecessary for him to recapitulate the excellent sentiments of Bro . Capt . Whitehead , but they must accept the will for the deed . At the same time , in a
pathetic appeal to the brethren , he stated that eighteen years ago this lodge was founded by their late Bro . Bamber , whose widow wasnow , through the ready and willing assistance of the Provincial Grand Lodge , in receipt of the usual sum of £ 32 a year from the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He now asked them to support the Provincial Grand Lodge on all occasions by sending to the
Provincial Grand Secretary their voting papers for the different Charities , as a slight appreciation of the very valuable services rendered on behalf of the election of Widow Bamber last year . Bro . Orr , P . M ., proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " who , in reply , promised to the best of his ability to carry out the grand principles of Freemasonry as others
had done in times past , and if his officers would only assist they would have a successful year . Owing to the visiting brethren having to leave early by train , the W . M . jjave the toast of "The Visitors , " to which Bro . Stead , P . M ., responded , and gave the usual invitation . The toasts of "The Installing Master , " " The Present and Retiring Officers , " and the Tyler's brought a very happy evening to a close .

George Jennings was initiated , both ceremonies being performed by Bro . Hallett in a masterly and efficient manner . The election of Treasurer was then proceeded with , the result being unanimously in favour of Bro . John Welford , I . P . M .
Lodge was then closed in perfect harmony , and the brethren adjourned to supper . At its conclusion , and after grace , the usual Royal and Masonic toasts were given and loyally received . Bro . C . A . Cottebrune , P . G . P ., having replied on behalf of " The Grand Officers , " Bro . Welford proposed "The Health of the Worshipful Master , " and , in doing so , complimented Bro . Hallett on the very skilful
manner in which he had performed his duties ; and , considering this was his first attempt , the lodge had every reason to congratulate themselves upon having so efficient a Master . Bro . Hallett having briefly acknowledged the toast , proposed that of " The Initiate , " who , in due course , responded . The next toast was that of " The Visitors , " who were ably represented in reply by Bro . C . J . Craig . In proposing the toast of "The Past Masters , " Bro . Hallett
tendered to those worthy brethren his sincere thanks for the kindness they had always shown , and to whom he owed his present position . Bro . Welford having replied , the W . Notices of motion for lodge grants in behalf of both lists were made , and after the proposition of further candidates the lodge was closed .
The brethren banqueted in the dining room adjoining the Temple , where a very liberal repast was served . The viands were excellent , and the service reflected great credit on the caterer , Bro . George Venables , under whose management the Surrey Masonic Hall appears to be now flourishing . The Stewards , Bros . Forbes and Permewan , vied with each other in their endeavours to make members and guests comfortable , and they well succeeded . After
the cloth had been cleared and the usual loyal toasts honoured , the company were invited by the W . M . to enjoy themselves without formality , and the succeeding toasts were interspersed with songs and recitations in rapid succession . In response to " Ihe Visitors , " most flattering comments were made by one and all in regard to the good working of the W . M . and his officers in lodge , and their subsequent and most hospitable reception . The Tyler's toast brought the evening to a conclusion at a reasonably early hour .

In giving the toast of "The Queen and the Craft , " the W . M . expressed the feeling of condolence of the lodge with Her Majesty for
the loss sustained by her in the lamentable catastrophe which had occurred causing the death of the Emperor of Russia , and expressed a feeling of regret at the event . Bro . O . D . Ray , in responding to the toast of " The Masonic Charities , " ably advocated the cause of the same , and expressed a hope for the success of a scheme recently proposed for the formation in this lodge of a benevolent fund for its especial use . Whitehead thanked the brethren of the Ilesketh Lodge , in suitable terms , for the
kind and hospitable manner in which he had been received on this and other occasions , and urged the brethren to a continuance of that good feeling which appeared to exist in the lodge . Bro . Gardner was likewise called upon to respond . He said it was unnecessary for him to recapitulate the excellent sentiments of Bro . Capt . Whitehead , but they must accept the will for the deed . At the same time , in a
pathetic appeal to the brethren , he stated that eighteen years ago this lodge was founded by their late Bro . Bamber , whose widow wasnow , through the ready and willing assistance of the Provincial Grand Lodge , in receipt of the usual sum of £ 32 a year from the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . He now asked them to support the Provincial Grand Lodge on all occasions by sending to the
Provincial Grand Secretary their voting papers for the different Charities , as a slight appreciation of the very valuable services rendered on behalf of the election of Widow Bamber last year . Bro . Orr , P . M ., proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " who , in reply , promised to the best of his ability to carry out the grand principles of Freemasonry as others
had done in times past , and if his officers would only assist they would have a successful year . Owing to the visiting brethren having to leave early by train , the W . M . jjave the toast of "The Visitors , " to which Bro . Stead , P . M ., responded , and gave the usual invitation .
