remarking that it was one of the most pleasant duties he had to perform . Being initiated with the W . M ., he had watched his progress in Freemasonry . The I . P . M . duly acknowledged the gift . Lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to banquet , and honoured the customary toasts . " The Queen and the Craft , " the W . M . said , at all gatherings of Englishmen was received most enthusiastically , but more especially amongst Freemasons , most loyally .
" The M . W . G . M . ; " "The Pro G . M ., the Earl of Carnarvon ; " "The Deputy G . M ., the Earl of Lathom , and the Rest of the Grand Officers , Present and" Past , " were also given . The W . M . said they were singularly favoured and gratified to see in their midst that night two very distinguished Grand Officers—viz ., V . W . Bro . Thos . Fenn , Pres . Board Gen . Purp . ; and VV . Bro . Joshua Nunn , Pres . Lodge of Benevolence ; with whose names be would
couple the toast . Bro . Fenn , in acknowledging the toast , stated that in their respective offices they endeavoured to enhance the best interests of the Craft and maintain the true principles of Masonry in their purity and integrity , but his fellow Grand Officer ( Bro . Nunn ) had not such a thankful task to perform . Bro . Nunn , in returning thanks , thought the brethren
of late were in the habit of voting large sums of money , and he was sorry to see it . His friends would find with him that the day would come when they would not be enabled to dispense so large an amount . He had much pleasure in seeing the installation ceremony performed that night , more particularly as it had been rendered by one in whom he was interested , and with whom he had been closely associated some few vears gone bv .
The I . P . M . then proposed "The W . M ., " and said he considered it a great source of pleasure to propose the health of the W . M ., as he was so intimately associated with him , and was specially pleased to see him occupy the position he did that night , as he was with himself one of the first initiates of the lodge , and he was perfectly convinced as to his ability in carrying out the duties of the lodge , and was quite sure every member valued and
greeted him in the chair with true Masonic feeling , and therefore he could not too highly commend him to their hearty support and co-operation . Speaking personally , he hoped the lodge would flourish most satisfactorily under his guidance , and wished him a most happy and prosperous year of office . The W . M ., in reply , expressed his intention of promoting , during his year of office , the very best interests
of the lodge , and that could only be efficiently done with the support and co-operation of his officers . He had no hesitation in saying he looked forward to a most successful year of office , and as he had firmly and strenuously held to the lodge from the beginning , so it would be a fitting occasion to invite the brethren individually to freely display their energies for the welfare of the lodge , now that he had the honour of discharging the various duties
in connection with the chair . The W . M ., in proposing "The Health of the I . P . M , and Installing Master , " said he was sure the brethren thoroughly appreciated the manner in which the installation ceremony had been performed that night , and that it merited every success there could be no doubt . For his own part , he would say that having been installed by the
I . P . M . into the chair of King Solomon , he heartily thanked him for the impressive manner in which he had conducted the ceremony . The I . P . M ., in reply , said he had experienced very great pleasure in installing his esteemed friend the W . M . into the chair . True , he ( the I . P . M . ) was the first initiate , and from the commencement he had aimed at the position the W . M . now occupied , and it was very gratifying to think

Ue had now passed the chair . He was personally indebted to the members of the lodge for the handsome jewel with which they had so kindly presented him , and assured them that any service or assistance he was at any time able to render it would willingly be accorded . The visitors were numerous , and all heartily welcomed . Bro . Wm . Rest said he was greatly gratified in witnessing the installed into the
W . M . chair , and , being personally connected with him , he was pleased to find he occupied that position ; but he could not allow the occasion to pass without paying due regard and comment as to the efficient and commendable manner in which the I . P . M . had placed him there . He had witnessed many ceremonies of installation , but had enjoyed none better than that that night . He
was much indebted to the W . M ., and hoped when the time came round that he would be enabled to instal his successor with equal satisfaction . Bros . G . R . Ousey , P . M . 59 ; Watson Ormond , P . M . 134 ; J . VV . Wordell , P . M . 95 ; F . W . Fregour , J . D . 171 ; and Rev . Chas . H . Davis also replied , expressing their appreciation of the meeting .
I he combined toasts of " The Treas . and Sec . " were duly responded to by Bro . Chas . Butcher , P . M ., expressing every satisfaction as to the successful issue of the meeting . The S . W . and J . W . replied to the toast of "The Officers , " and the Tyler ' s toast concluded a most enjoyable evening .

Bro . Davis was sojourning in this country , and was very anxious to take the M . M . Degree , which the W . M . readily acceded to , and intimated to him that he would be very happy to confer the Degree , which was accordingly done . The W . M ., Bro . G . S . Recknell , then proceeded to instal Bro . R . Kimpton , S . W ., as W . M . of the lodge for the ensuing year . The whole of the ceremonies were most ably and impressively rendered , and the officers invested were

M . with a handsome P . M . 's jewel in recognition of his services during the past year ,
remarking that it was one of the most pleasant duties he had to perform .
