John ' s Day was fittingly chosen as tho time for laying the foundation stone of the hall ; and the fineness of tho weather ¦ caused a large number of to assemble along tbe line of
persons route taken by thc procession , and at the spot where the ceremony was to be performed . As this will be the first hall erected by the Craft in the city of AA'cllington , great exertions were made to give interest to the proceedings . A temporary booth was erected over the site of the future buildim * , which was gaily decorated with evergreens ancl flags , the royal arms , and armorial bearings . Seats were fitted up for thc accommodation of ladies
, who attended in large numbers . It was expected that a large muster of tho brethren would have taken place , but from various causes many were hindered from being present , and only about eighty joined in tho procession . The site chosen for the hall is in Boulcott-street , adjoining Captain Benson ' s residence , and is well situated for the purpose . The building will be erected b y tlie Pacific ( E . C . ) and

Shortly after one o ' clock the procession , formed of members of the Pacific and AVaterloo Lodges , emerged from the archway of the Empire Hoteland headed hthe Hutfc Volunteers' band

my life that it has been my good fortune to preside on the present occasion—a clay long to bo remembered in tlie annals of Freemasonry in this province . The Rev . P . II . Maxwell then offered up the following prayer : — "Vonchsafe to us Thine aid , Almighty Lord aud Great Architect of the Universe , in the undertaking whicli w e commence this clayand grant that in this and all other works to
