Heath , P . M ., proposed in a brief but forcible speech , that a gold jewel should be presented to Bro . AV . Wilson , the
AV . M ., for his long and valuable services as Secretary , and the performance of various important duties in the lodge not the least highly appreciated , of which Avas the organisation and direction of the annual summer festival , which bad for so many years been sAiceessfiAUy earned out by Bro . Wilson . The proposition ivas seconded and put to the loclge by the S . W ., aud Avas carried hy acclamation . The W . M . in thanking the brethren
for the unlocked for but highly prized compliment they had paid him , said that Avhatever time he had deA'oted to the business ol the loclge , or whatever trouble he hacl taken in connection Avith any of the duties AA'hich he had undertaken , they were labours of loA'e , ancl he felt amply repaid by the many kindly expressions of satisfaction on the part . of the brethren on the present as on many previous occasions , and that it li-as a real source ol pleasure to him to contribute to the comfort and happiness of the members and their visitors , as it AVUS to promote by every means in his poiver the prosperity of the Berkbampsted Loclge . M . in pithy terms , as he explained that the time being short for those brethren Avho hacl to leave for London by train , tbe list of toasts being somewhat long he would set au example of brevity Avhich he , hoivever , desired should not be misunderstood for any Avant of cordial hospitality and fraternal greeting to the visiting brethren on his part . proposing the health of the M . W . the Grand Master , tbe AV . M . in a brief but admirable manner reminded tbe brethren of tho high Masonic qualities of the G . M ., and particularly referred to the most recent great public and at the same time Masonic sei'A'ice rendered to tlie tAvo branches of the Anglo-Saxon race iu his quality of High Commissioner from this country to our transatlantic cousins , for which eminent services Her Majesty bad been pleased to confer upon our M . W . Grand Master the dignity of a Marquis , an act Avhich had met with the highest approval and universal satisfaction amongst all parties and throughout the entire length and breadth of the laud .
