The Moveable Grand Mark Lodge At Liverpool.
past few years it has met on these occasions in Freemasons' Tavern . The Moveable Grand Lodge , as the distinction betokens , meets at different times in different parts of the country , but generally in compliance with some special invitation it has received and accepted beforehand . This plan of having a peripatetic Grand Lodge , which , though stationary for general purposes , is capable of visiting particular places for a particular purpose , or
cven without any special design , is not without its advantages . It enables the Grand Master and his officers to become acquainted with the position and circumstances of the Degree in particular localities , while the brethren in the locality which is for the occasion being honoured have the advantage of being brought into closer contact with the chief dignitaries of the Order . However , be the advantages mail } ' or few , great or small , the custom
prevails in the Mark organisation of holding Moveable Grand Lodges , and on Wednesday Liverpool , as the centre of the great and nourishing Province of Lancashire , was honoured with the presence of Mark Grand Lodge . A better choice for a visit , which should combine business with pleasure , could hardly have been made . Not only is Lancashire a chief stronghold of the Mark Degree , but it has the advantage of being governed by one of the most popular Provincial Grand Masters—the Earl of Lathom—who is
himself also a Past Grand Master of the Degree . In these circumstances it will not be difficult to imagine that those who fortunately were able to attend Mark Grand Lodge on Wednesday , took part in a more than ordinarily pleasant and successful meeting , and they are likely for some time to come to bear in mind that few meetings have been attended by as successful round of sight-seeing as that of the current week . ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION .
ihe Old 1 * oiks at Croydon had their usual summer festivity on Wednesday , when a large number of friends and supporters of the Institution assembled , and took part in the proceedings . As usual , tea was served in the large hall , and later in the evening a very pleasant entertainment was given by the Criterion Handbell Ringers , while sengs and other contributions to the pleasure of the meeting were made by Bros . J . G . Stevens , Miss Terry , and Mr . Mason . Just before breaking up ,
Bro . J . G . STEVENS , in kind and complimentary terms , invited those present to drink to the long-continued health and happiness of Bro . James Terry , the Secretary , whose first and last thought was how best he could promote the success of the Institution and the comforts of the inmates . The invitation was most ^ ordiaily responded to ; indeed , all the more so
from the knowledge that latterly Bro . Terry had not been in that uncompromising condition of health and strength which is usual with him . Bro . TKRRY very heartily acknowledged the kindness , both of his old friends and the visitors , and declared he should continue , as long as his strength permitted , to give his best exertions to maintain the prosperity of the Benevolent Fund .
Among those present were Bro . and Mrs . Bowyer , Bros . J . A . Farnfield T . Cubitt , P . G . P ., and R . VV . Stewart , P . G . D ., Mrs . ' Murlis , Mrs . Newton , Bros . J . J . Berry , J . G .
