THE BOYS' SCHOOL . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — Can nothing be done to vivify the movement for : he Boys' Preparatory School ? Would it be possible to naugurate a movement of some kind in London and the
provinces to raise funds to the amount of the original estinate of £ Booo ? I have always been a little afraid that , with the best in-: entions in the world , the House Committee made a great mistake in exhibiting designs , not one of which came down 0 the sum originally proposed by the House Committee
tself , through Bro . Raynham W . Stewart , and unanimously acceded to . For it was remarked that it seemed jseless to make and carry motions , if those charged with : acrymg them out , did not apparently care or seek to 3 o so . Of course , if experience showed the movers that they
bad under-estimated the needful expenditure , it would have seen better to have come forward and asked for a supplementary amount . The subscribers in no sense deserved a : avalier treatment . But still , as it is always useless to "cry Dver spilt milk , " can we not improve the occasion and help
the Boys School ? Can we not try and reduce that dreadful list which almost paralyses energy and extinguishes hope ? Would a bazaar be practicable ? Is there , in short , any method feasible by which the dead lock may be exchanged for active efforts , and let us hope , eventual success ? Yours fraternally , A NON EXHIBITOR .
PAST MASTER OF A NEW LODGE . To the Editor of the " Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , In reading over the " New Draft Revise of Constitution , " I find that the first Master of a new lodge , if he happens to be only a Master Mason at the time of his installation , will not be eligible for the Master ' s chair in any
other lodge . Art . 130 , p . 46 . " Every lodge shall annually , at a stated period , proceed to elect its Master by ballot from among those of its members who have duly served the office of a Warden in regular lodge under the English Constitution . " Art . 135 , P . 4 S , cannot be applied to the Master of a new lodge from his own . Yours fraternally , R . W . O .
THE REVISED CONSTITUTIONS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I can confirm what you say in your review of the Revised Constitutions , Rule 94 , with respect to lodges never being visited by their Provincial Grand Master or
his representative . It is some years since the lodge I belong to was so honoured , whilst all lodges in the neighbouring province of Somerset and Dorset are visited at least once a year . If the number of lodges in any province grows so numerous as to prevent all of them from being visited occasionally , should it not be divided ? so that no lodge shall be left "OUT IN THE COLD . "
THE WORD « COWAN . " To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , — I was in hope that some brother more learned m Masonic lore than myself would have answered your
correspondent ' s question as to the meaning of the above word . I have always believed that the word " cowan " is simp'y an English rendering of the Greek noun " kunes , " a dog . If your correspondent will refer to his Greek testament , he will find the word ( in its plural form , " kunes twice
