number of Go . The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were put by the W . M . in choice and well . turned phrases , and were heartily drank . The Immediate Past Master proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., " saying that was the first time he ( Bro . Lewis ) had ever held the gavel for such a purpose , but hope to weild it for the next 12 months at least , for the same
purpose . It afforded him great pleasure to propose the health of one who had , by Stirling merit alone , that day arrived at the height of a Mason's career , for no matter what other honours Masonry might have in store for him , to arrive at the chair of his mother lodge ought to be , and was , he felt sure , the greatest honour that could be bestowed upon a good Mason . To that honour Bro . Ives had arrived , and
he congratulated both him and the lodge on the fact . What was in store for them had been evinced by the able and admirable manner in which their VV . M . had began his reign that day , his working of the ceremony of initiation was faultless , and they might depend upon it that whatever he had to do in the future would be done as ably . He asked them to drink the toast with all the honour it
deserved . Bro . Ives , in response , rallied the I . P . M . pleasantly on the flattering terms employed so elegantly in proposing his ( the VV . M . ' s health ) , and supposed that now Bro . Lewis had passed through the terrors of this office he was indulging in a little chaff ; however , he ( Bro . Ives ) could assure them that he should endeavour to do his duty in
such a manner , that when he left that chair and transmitted the warrant of the lodge to the keeping of his successor , the credit and prestige of the lodge would have lost none of its present lustre . He should try all in his power to promulgate the beautiful tenets of the Order and act up to them . He trusted the officers and brethren would help him by their presence , and the Past Masters by their council ,
and then he felt sure that however difficult it was to follow such excellent predecessors , the Henley Lodge would still hold its own for good working , and above all , for that perfect harmony that made its meetings so pleasant and enjoyable . He cordially thanked them for the toast and resumed his seat amid applause . The other toasts were " The Past Masters , " all of whom
present responded . "The Visitors , " "The Initiates , " " The Officers , " and the Tyler's toast . Bro . Henry presided at the piano , and songs were sung by Bros . Lewis , Burton , Paul , Vance , Canning , and Hefford . Bro . Keeble recited a most amusing balloon story , and Bro . Jolly recited an original poem , written for the occasion . The whole affair was a great success .

Having paid a warm tribute to the worth ot the brother whose early decease all who knew him most sincerely mourn , the VV . M . asked Bro . Abel Laurence , I . P . M ., Prov . G . D . Surrey , to undertake the Secretarial duties . Bro . Laurence said he would do so , and his appointment has given the utmost satisfaction to the lodge . It was then resolved that Bro . John Drewctt , T . W ., forward a
letter of condolence to Mrs . Cable , assuring her of the sympathy of the brethren , and the same was ordered to be entered upon the minutes . The question of what should be done for the widow and family of the late Secretary was then discussed , and eventually a grant of £ 20 was made from the lodge funds ( one-half from the Benevolent Fund , of which Bro . YouldonP . M . is Treasurer ) and a
, , , 11 st was opened for the individual contributions of members . This last , in a small meeting , amounted to £ 14 , and will be much increased . As showing the esteem in which Bro . Cable was held , it may be mentioned that Bro . VV . Drewett published in his local journal , the Kingston and Sarbiton News , last week a goodly sum , subscribed bv the
passengers on the L . and S . VV . R . at Norbiton Station , where Bro . Cable was station master . There had been a ballot taken for a candidate , who was accepted , but he " wired" up that he was detained at an out-of-the-way place for want of a train . The VV . number of Go .
The whole affair was a great success .

, , , 11 st was opened for the individual contributions of members . This last , in a small meeting , amounted to £ 14 , and will be much increased . As showing the esteem in which Bro . passengers on the L . and S . VV . R . at Norbiton Station , where Bro . Cable was station master .
