The motion was seconded and carried unanimously , and

which having subsided , Rro . Heywood , who was unmistakeably overcome , thanked the brethren in a few well chosen words . Prior to the lodge closing , Bro . J . J . Lambert , P . M ., proposed that the sum of £ 10 ios . be voted from the Charity Fund to the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , which was seconded and rarried .
After " Hearty good wishes " had been expressed by the numerous visitors , the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The brethren afterwards celebrated the Festival of St . John by dining together , and the greatest credit is due to the Masonic Hall Committee for the admirable manner in which the dinner had been prepared and was served , also to Mrs . Langford , the manageress , for the care and attention she had bestowed upon the cooking , & c , and to the Stewards for their courtesy and attention to the visitors .
After dinner the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . The I . P . M ., Bro . Heywood , proposed "The Health of the W . M . " in glowing terms . The toast was received with the greatest enthusiasm by all present , and subsequently our local tenor , Bro . Jackson ( who has just contracted a three years' engagement with Carl Rosa ) , sang " Here ' s to his health " in a manner such as we have never before heard .
The Worshipful Master having replied , Bro . Jackson sang " There is a flower thatbloometh , " in a most exquisite manner , which , despite the W . M . ' s gavel , resulted in an
encore . "The Health of the I . P . M . and Installing Master " was proposed in glowing terms by Bro . Crompton , P . M ., and was heartily drunk by the brethren . Bro . Heywood , in reply , said it was all very well for his health to be proposed as the Immediate Past Master of the Chorlton Lodge , but he did not think it should have been coupled with the toast of the
Installing Master , because the work had been jointly done , and he had been most ably assisted by Past Master ' s Batty , Schofield , Rains , and Crompton . It was the first time he had ever attempted an installation ceremony , and he had had but a month onl y to commit it to memory . He had tried his utmost to discharge the duties connected therewith to the best of his ability , and hoped , as there seemed little doubt from the acclamation of the brethren , that he had
given them satisfaction . He took this last opportunity of thanking the officers who had so ably supported him , and who had worked faithfully , arduously , and zealously , from the Wardens to the Stewards , and when he found they were all trying their hardest to assist him . he considered it a great compliment , and sincerely hoped the VV . M . would be as well served by his officers during the ensuing year . Bro . Alfred Lewtas here sang " In happy moments" in
grand style , and was encored . Bro . James Batty proposed the toast of "The Visitors , " which was well received and heartily drunk , after which several of the visitors responded , and bore testimony to the efficient work they had witnessed that day , and the hospitable treatment they had received . Bro . Charles Martyne , J . D ., proposed "The Health of the P . M . 's , " which was also well received , and responded
to by Bro . Crompton , P . M . Several other toasts were proposed and responded to , including "The Masonic Charities , " "The Officers , " & c , and an exceedingly enjoyable evening was spent ; the pleasure of the brethren being considerably enhanced by the splendid singing of Bros . Seymour Jackson , Alfred Lewtas , Stephen Jupp , Herbert Owles , and others ; the Accompaniments being artistically played by Bro . Dean .

The motion was seconded and carried unanimously , and
a vote of thanks was accorded Bro . Chadfield for his highly appreciated services . The ceremony of installation was then proceeded with , the duties of Installing Master being undertaken by the W . M . himself , Bro . Charles Heywood , than whom no better worker has ever sat in the chair of K . S . The W . M . elect , Bro . W . Hall , after being presented to the Installing Master by Bro . Dr . which having subsided , Rro .
Dean .
