Reports Of Masonic Meetings.
genuine and good Mason as our VV . M ., and one for whom I entertain the greatest personal esteem and fraternal regard . It will afford me great pleasure during the ensuing year to assist you , worshipful sir , to the best of my ability in the good government of the lodge , and in promoting harmony and happiness amongst its members . There are several things of great importance you contemplate doing for to benefit the financial position of the lodge during your
year of office , in all , you will find me a ready and willing suppoitir . The one great thing on which you , worshipful sir , have set your heart will , I feel assured , if brought to a successful issue during the coming season , mark this as one of the most eventful years in the history of Chine Lodge , will redound to your credit , shed fresh lustre on the lodge , and bring us higher honours and increased prosperity . Bro . Swayne , J . D ., said : Worshipful Master and
brethren , as the junior officer of the lodge 1 feel that I have very little to say and much to learn , but I will take this opportunity to thank the W . M . for the very able and impressive manner in which he told us all our duties , and for my own part ( and I think I may include my brother officers ) , 1 hope he will be strict with us and see that we carry out these duties to the letter , as I feel that the prosperity and good name of this lodge depends mainly on the
smartness and integrity of its officers . I thank you for the kind way in which my name has been coupled with the toast , and I trust when my year of office has expired you will say I have done my duty , at any rate I shall try to do so , as I hope to see Chine Lodge , No . 1 SS 4 , second to none in Hampshire for proficiency . We will add that the menu showed excellent taste on the
part of thc purveyor . It was a solid and substantial , as well as a recherche , banquet , and the lodge bore grateful testimony to the efforts of the hostess—who , by the way is the widow of a founder of the lodge—for their comfort . There were also on the table in the course of the evening four double Magnums of Moigneaux ' s Pore et Fils 1 SS 0 Champagne—a novelty not often seen at thc banquet table .

behalf of Bro . S . Hewitt , 1614 , and , it proving to be unanimous , he was ably exalted into the R . A . Degree by Comp . Webb in a manner that left but little to be desired . The election of Principals and officers for the year ensuing then took place , with the following result : Comps . Appleton , M . E . Z . ; Ayling , H . ; Lardner , J . ; H . Higgins , S . The usual toasts followed , and a most agreeable evening was spent , under the genia [ presidency of the M . E . Z .
WOOLWICH . —Union Waterloo Chapter ( No . 13 ) . —The installation meeting of the above ancient chapter took place on the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , William-street , and was well attended . The chapter was opened by Comp . J . Wilkins , M . E . Z ., and after the minutes and cash account had been confirmed , M . E . Comp . A . Penfold , P . Z . 913 , P . P . G . 2 nd A . S . These companions having severally returned thanks , the chapter was closed , and the companions adjourned to Comp . De Gray ' s Hotel , the Freemason , Dockyard Station , where a sumptuous ] y served banquet awaited them , and to which full justice was done .
Among the other companions present were Comp . I . H . Gamble , P . Z . ; J . Scott-Mutch , P . Z . ; C . Wood , C . A . Canning , R . Hodgkinson , and J . Robinson , all of the chapter . The visitors included Comps . Coupland , P . Z . 913 , P . P . G . J . Kent ; F . A . White , P . Z . 907 ; H . Mason , P . Z . 913 ; R . Edmonds , Z . 913 ; J . Aillud , S 29 ; R . Cowell , 192 ; A . VVillmott , 552 ; G . Frost , 913 ; J . Hooton , 913 ; and C . jolly , 913 . The usual loyal and
Royal Arch Chapter toasts having been duly honoured , M . E . Comp . Wilkins proposed the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " and in so doingsaid the name of Geo . Kenneday was proverbial for good Masonry . Comp . Keneeday had served thc chapter for many years with zeal and fidelity as S . E ., but his ambition led him onward , and now they were all delighted to see him in the chair of First
Principal of the lodge . As he ( Bro . Wilkins ) now saw something in the eye of Comp . Coupland that told him that he ( Comp . Coupland ) knew more , and would tell them more of Comp . Kenneday presently , he would conclude by asking them to drink the toast with a good fire . The M . E . Z ., in response , assured them that he appreciated their encomiums , and when he thought that he was
one of the oldest members of the chapter , lie congratulated himself on the tenacity with which he had held on to the good old ship for so many years . It was over 20 years ago since he first joined it , and he could fairly say , and those present who knew it could as fairly say , that he had not only been constant in his attachment , but in his attendance during the whole of that time . He assured them that it
would be his best endeavour to emulate the work of those gone before him ; and among the visitors that night there was one who had held a most important position in thc Grand Chapter of Kent , and who could tell them how he had endeavoured to do his duty in the past . He alluded to
Comp . Coupland . After complimenting Comps . Penfold , Mason , and Edmonds , upon the splendid working he had seen them do in the Pattison Chapter he assured them that he should try so to work with the same zeal in the Union Waterloo Chapter . He was exalted in the old Adams Chapter , at Sheerness ; and now he had arrived at
Royal Arch.
the height of his ambition , he should leave not a stone unturned to sustain it with credit to himself and honour to the chapter . " The Past Principals " were then toasted , and Comp . Wilkins said it was the ptrogative of the I . P . P . to say the first word in response . He felt it a great honour to be one amongst them , and could only thank them for the appreciation in which they held his services , humble as they
were . Comp . Gamble said it was with profound gratitude that he returned thanks for the toast . He complimented the M . E . Z . upon the manner in which he had always carried out his duties , and felt sure the prestige of the chapter was safe in his hands .
Comp . West thanked them for the toast , and regretted that some of the Past Principals did not show up . It seemed to him that as soon as they had received the highest honouis , they left the chapter to get on as it could . He thought they should stick to it , as he had , and meant to stick . ¦ Comp . Mutch had received the greatest kindness at their
hands , and felt that a return was due at the bands of the Past Principals . After paying Comp . Penfold a high compliment , he said he hoped to be able to bring the M . E . Z . one or two good Masons to swell the number of the lodges , and hoped he would have a good and prosperous year of office . The M . E . Z . then proposed the toast of "The Installing
Officer . " He said it was impossible for any but Past Principals , or those in the first chair of a chapter to know , or appreciate the valuable services Comp . Penfold had rendered the chapter that day . That was not the first , or even the second occasion upon which he had done splendid service for the chapter , by installing its Principals , as also in many other ways . He asked them to drink the toast
with all enthusiasm . Comp . Penfold , who was received with cheers , said he hardly knew how sufficiently to thank them . Comp . Mutch had by his remarks made him feel rather warm , but now he had been toasted to such a degree , that he felt he was " done brown " right through . He was always pleased to do anything for Masonry in any lodge , or any chapter
with which he was connected , or in which he felt an interest , but more especially in the Union Waterloo , because it was his mother chapter , and consequently had special claims on him , and he on the chapter . He was one of the founders of the Pattison Chapter , and he felt that chapter had also claims on him , and had perhaps a little more of his attention , the claims of the two though similar , were not
just alike , the one was that of the parent , the other that of the offspring . Years ago , when he was exalted in No . 13 chapter , the names of Cook , Henderson , and Graydon , were familiar names , those worthy companions had all done good service in their time , in ritual , in management , and in installings , they arc not with us now , but their names bring back old memories to some of the companions seated at
the board . For several years he had had the honour and privilege of installing the Principals in this chapter , and it almost appeared as if by some occult process the mantle of installing officer had descended from those distinguished companions on himself , he hoped he was endued with a portion of their Masonic spirit . On no occasion had he felt greater pleasure , than the present , in placing his esteemed
friend , Comp . Kenneday , in the chair of Z , Tbe M . E . Z . had distinguished himself in " another place , " he had also made his mark in "another place , " it was a labour of love , and he was sure , knowing as they all did the merits and capabilities of their 1 st Principal , at the expiration of his year of office they would ail say it had not been "love ' s labour lost . " He cordially thanked them for the
toast , and resumed his seat amid a round of cheers . The other toasts were " The Visitors , " several of whom responded . " The 2 nd and 3 rd Principals , " " The Officers , " and the Janitor ' s toast . A hearty vote ot thanks was passed to Comp . De Grey for his excellent catering , and the proceedings xvhich had been most harmonious , terminated .
