Sharpley , Org . ; and G . Longstaff , Tyler . A vote of thanks was passed to the installing Officer , and he was presented with a Past Master's jewel . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet .

Upon the removal of the cloth the customary loyal and Craft toasts were received with full justice . The I . P . M ., in proposing "The Health of th ; VV . M ., " said that they had that evening installed into the chair one who would do credit to the lodge . He had filled the minor olfices well , and being a member of a learned profession he would be able to do what he , the I . P . M ., had failed to do , namely , make good speeches at the banquet table .

The VV . M ., in reply , said it was a proud moment to him when he was elected to fill the Master's chair of No . 141 . His progress in the lodge had been most rapid . He trusted at the end of the year to have their good opinion . The I . P . M . had said something about speech making . He was no great believer in after-dinner eloquence , he preferred music , and he had that evening prepared a programme which he trusted would entertain them all .

" The Initiate " having been toasted , duly replied . "The Health of the Visitors" drew from Bros . R . ( . ) . Moody , W . M . ; E . Stimson , P . M . ; J . Budd , P . M . ; i . Richardson , P . M . ; and S . Stokes , P . M ., exhaustive replies . ' In proposing "The Past Masters , " the Worshipful Master said that they were a great power in the Lodge of Faith , they numbered 16 . To show that they had not lost

touch with the brethren , there were no less than 14 of them present that evening . He should couple the toast with the name of one who had been of great assistance to the various members of the lodge and others , and whose abilities at entertaining had been so often taxed . This toast having been warmly received , Bro . Walls briefly acknowledged the compliment . "The Masonic Charities" gave Bro . Charles Dairy ,

P . M ., an opportunity of appealing to the sympathies of the brethren on behalf of the festivals of the three respective Charities in 1 S 93 . In giving " The Treasurer and Secretary , " the Worshipful Master called attention to the fact that their respected and venerable Treasurer , Bro . VV . Carter , had been invested 34 consecutive times . He ventured to think that there were few lodges so distinguished by such long

service . Bro . Stuart , P . M ., their Secretary , had also been invested many times , and he trusted that for years they would continue in their sphere of usefulness . The toast of " The Ollieers , " coupled with the names of Bros . Trott and VVhite , terminated the proceedings . During the evening , a selection ot music , under thc

direction of Bro . Oswald Sharpley , assisted by Miss Phyllis Hope , Miss Louise Auther , Mr . Walter Toomer , and Air . W . Cecil Barnard . 'The efforts of the ladies being especially warmly received and encored . The W . M . and the executive of the lodge are to be congratulated on the great success that attended the proceedings .

25 th year ); Adams , S . D . ; Westmorland , J . D . ; Coote , l . G . ; Omer , P . AL , D . C ; li . Loader and Wright , Stwds . ; and Very , Tyler . Bro . Stevens then delivered the addresses to the VV . M ., Wardens , oflicers , and brethren , with clearness of enunciation and impressiveness . He worked the beautiful ceremony throughout in a way pleasing to the brethren . A vote of thanks to Bro . Stevens for his ahle

conduct of thc ceremony was proposed by Bro . Parrett , P . M ., seconded by Bro . Omer , P . M ., and unanimously agreed to by the brethren . In reply , he wished the W . AI . a speedy recovery to health . After the presentation of a handsome silver tea service to the l . P . AL , Bro . Parrett , in recognition of his services as W . M . for the second year

and other business , thc lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to a well-served banquet , which was provided by the able and energetic host , Bro . Keen . Having done honour to this interesting part uf the ceremony , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and received with enthusiasm .

Bro . Atkins , P . M ., in proposing " Ihe l . P . AL , " referred to his services , which they had in a degree recognised by their presentation . He humorously referred to tne teapot as thc appanage of the wife , the sugar basin of the husband , and the cream jug of the daughter . Responding to the toast of " The Installing Master , " Bro . Stevens said he had been proud to take the place of

Bro . Terry , who was so great a favourite in the lodge . If he had satisfied the brethren he was amply repaid . Responding for " The Visitors , " Iiro . Verry , P . M ., & c ., also coupled with it "The Masonic Charities , " with which his name was to be associated . He thanked the brethren , and hoped they would support him in his attempt to gain a seat on the Board of General Purposes . The liast-und

OrpheUS Lodge ( No . 1706 ) . —On Saturday , the 29 th ult ., the installation meeting of this lod ge was held at the Holborn Restaurant , and the pleasure which a visit to it affords was shown by the great number of brethren of other lodges who accepted the invitations sent them . So full an attendance has not often been seen , numbering as it did just upon 70 , and it must have been as gratif ying to the out-going and the incoming Masters as to the 10 Hast

Masters of the lodge who were present , and of whom but two were unable to join their brethren . The lodge was opened by Bro . S . G . Vaughan , and after the dispatch of business connected with finance and benevolence , the ballot was taken for Mr . E . G . D . Myers , who was well received , and then initiated by the VV . M . in a very impressive manner . The all-round work was excellentl y done by the oflicers in general . That ceremony over the

, W . M . proceeded with the installation of his successor , Hro . C . J . Frost , Mus . Doc , who was presented by Bro . Willey , P . AL , delivering the ritual carefully and deliberatel y , so that al ! could follow him . The W . M . went on until the Board of Installed Masters was formed , which consisted of 25 members , and Bro . Frost was placed in the chair of K . S . according to ancient form . The Worshipful Master was afterwards proclaimed and

saluted . The appointment of officers resulted as follows : Bros . Fred . Bevan , S . VV . ; R . A . Kemp , J . VV . ; R . Clowes , P . M ., G . S . B ., Treas . ; Wm . Clifford , P . M ., Sec . ; Rev . W . Stainer , Chap . ; T . H . Hicks , S . D . ; Sutton Shepley , J . D . ; Albert Fox , I . G . ; H . Walmsley Little , P . M ., D . C ; C . G . Sadler , Org . ; F . E . Carter , atwd . ; and Potter , P . AL , Tyler . Owing to their inability to attend this meeting the investiture of the Treasurer and

Steward had to be postponed . Bro . Vaughan completed his labours as Installing Alaster by an eloquent and forcible delivery of the ancient charges . Five names were given in as candidates for initiation and one as a re-joining member , after which the visiting brethren offered " Hearty good wishes " and the lodge was closed . The banquet was served in one of the handsome saloons of the establishment , and the VV . M ., who displayed no

little power of speech when investing his oflicers , presided amost elliciently , omitting the use of many . words in order that the company should lose none of the music promised them . For "The Grand Oflicers , " Bro . Vallentine responded , remarking that among them ( the G . O . ) were stars of great magnitude , stars of uncertain magnitude , and stars of no

magnitude at all . To the latter class he belonged . ( Cries of " No" and laughter , the worthy brother being of commanding statue and proportionate size . ) However , he could say that all the Grand Orticers were pleased at any tims to visit lodges in order that they might show their interest in the Cratt generally and in the promulgation of the principles of the Order .

The I . P . M . gave "The Health of the Worshipful Master " in very eulogistic terms , observing that they had had an idea of what he was capable of , and he was sure sure that in Bro . Charles Frost they would have a Master second in ability to none of those who had gone before him . Their new W . AL was possessed of excellent qualities , and would shed lustre upon the lodge . The Worshipful Master , in reply , said he was greatly

obliged to the I . P . M . for the kind expressions he had used , and would promise the brethren to do his best to deserve their approbation , lt was his pleasure and privilege to present to Bro . Vaughan the jewel voted to him by the lodge . The I . P . M . had indeed done well , and thoroughly deserved that mark of approval . Having | fastened the jewel on Iiro . Vaughan's breast , the VV . AI . proposed "The Health of the LP . AL , " which was most cordially received .

Bro . Vaughan said that in quitting the chair he had quitted a post which had been very dear to him . He hid experienced many kindnesses during the past year , and should always look back upon that period with much pleasure , and wear the jewel given him with pride . Many lelt that their work was done when they left the chair , but he hoped to be useful to his mother lodge in thc futuic , and thus exhibit his gratitude for the kindness shoivn him

during his Mastership . After the toast of "The Initiate " cams that of " Tl " Visitors , " se / eral of whom responded , the W . M . of the Royal Alfred Lodge leading off . All spoke in the highest terms of the working shown , and of the hospitality extended . One brother created much laughter . Being a genuine Irishman , speaking in a rich brogue , which told of his nationality , he inlormed the W . AL that he had been a

Master Mason tor ifi years , and was the third gencraW of his family in the Order , and the Orpheus Lodge wis thc Iirst lodge that had had the honour to entertain him . For " The Past Alasters " Bro . Gadsby ( first Master " thelodge ) and Joyce Murray ( the third ) responded ; a < j Bros . Uilford and Bevan made happy speeches in spelling to the toast of " The Orticers . " Bro . Potter had the last "say , " and . then a most enjoyable evening came W

an end . . . It would be unpardonable to omit mention of the uui-. cai entertainment given , for that is one of the greatest feature- ' of the gatherings of the Orpheus Lodge . ' As in inW former years the direction of it was entrusted to Bro . J " " Hodges , who was assisted by the pick of professionals holding engagements at Westminster Abbey , the Cha ) " - Royal , and other " places where they sing . " . , Willi the exception of the National Antnem ( in wluc "' .,

Board of Installed Masters was formed , and Bro . Trappett inducted into the chair of K . S . He then invested the following ollieers : Bros . Fielder , S . VV . ; J . Lusty , jun ., J . VV . ; G .
