H . Stewart , P . AL , the lyler for some time past . The Auditors' report was put forward and adopted . Other business having been disposed of , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . This having been dispatched in due time , the loyal toasts and that of " The Grand Officers , Present and Past , " were drunk with enthusiasm .

"The Health of the Worshipful Alaster was proposed by Bro . Govier , I . P . M ., who referred in his usual eloquent manner to the attention the VV . AI . had always paid to all the duties of his previous offices . He felt sure that he had a full sense of the responsibility of his high position . He wished him a successful year of office , and felt sure that when the time came for the next VV . AI . to be installed , it

would be seen that the lodge had prospered under his care . The Worshipful Alaster thanked the brethren for their confidence , and could but feel encouraged by it . He had reached the summit of his ambition , and had been helped forward by his love of the Craft . What he did he was resolved should be for thc credit of the lodge . In proposing " The Installing Master , " the Worshipful

Master said that in his performance of the ceremony of installation Bro . Govier had excelled himself . Bro . Govier , in reply , said , although not satisfied with himself , he was pleased if the brethren were satisfied . He felt so inclined for work , that he should have liked to have completed all the work or . the agenda . In ( riving the toast of "The Past Alasters , " the

Worshipful Master referred to their frequent attention and assiduity in the lodge . Thc geniality of Bro . Govier was well known ; Bro . Reeve , a founder of the lodge , was affectionately known as "father" Reeve ; Bro . Sinclair had been his Masonic coach , many times during the small hours in the morning he had spent hours in instructing him ; Bro . Clements , bashful and retiring as he was , had been

one of the best Worshipful Masters ; and Bro . K ' mipp \ e was also popular among them . In replying , Bro . Govier thought the Past Masters were the backbone of a lodge . Bros . Reeve , Watkins , Sinclair , Clements , and Kinipple added a few words . For 'The Initiates" Bros . Russell and Pereirn both

responded . For "The Visitors , " out of a long list , Bros . Norman , Duck , Calver , Harris , Chatterton , and a few others spoke briefly . In proposing "The Charities , " the Worshipful Master said those of the outside world that regarded Freemasonry as an epicurean club must have been awakened when they

saw the enormous amounts lately subscribed . For " The Officers " Bro . Reeve , P . AL , Treas ., spoke of the financial prosperity of the lodge . Bro . Rogers , P . AL , P . Z ., Sec , said he had served a full apprenticeship in that capacity . In his 13 years of ollice the amount collected was £ 3140 , and they had made 17 S initiates and joining members . They had started well . All the lodge

furniture was paid off in their first year . In their first year they had 43 initiates and had collected £ 3 ( 14 . They had dispensed large amounts to the Charities . They had now just under too contributing members . Bros . Smith , Longworth , Threshie and others briolly

thanked the W . AL and brethren . The Tyler ' s toast closed a pleasantly spent evening , which had been enlivened by the vocalisation of Bros . Perry , Patchin , Riley , Chatterton , Duck , and Gwinn , and the powerful recitation of the gruesome " Yarn of the Nancy Bell , " by Bro . Calver , P . AL

to render every assistance S 3 that the ceremonies in the Iodge might be rendered as perfectly as possible ; he also complimented the W . AI . elect on his assiduous attention to his duties during the past year , which he regarded as a good omen for the future , and he asked the brethren to extend to the incoming Alaster thc same measure of support which he himself had received at their hands during the past year . Concluding , the retiring VV . AI . hoped he had left

his mark upon the lodge . A Board of Installed Masters was opened , when Bra . Niven was impressively installed into the chair of K . S . by Bro . A . Stephenson , P . P . . G . D . Apologies were tendered for the absence of several brethren and visitors . After "Hearty good wishes" from the numerous visitors , the lodge was closed . The Worshipful Alaster presided at the banquet which followed , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were

given with commendable brevity and duly honoured . "The Immortal Memory of St . John the Evangelist " was very appropriately and impressively submitted by the Chaplain , Bro . S . A . Auty , P . M . In submitting the toast of " The R . W . Provincial Grand Alaster , and Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the Worshipful Alaster referred with regret to the continued indisposition of the Prov . G . AL , Bro . Tew , J . P ., P . G . D .

England . Bro . J . VV . Balme , P . M . 01 , P . S . G . D ., in responding , stated that that was the first time he had had the honour of responding for Prov . Grand Lodge , and that it was a peculiar pleasure to do so at Lodge Acacia , where he always received a cordial welcome . He was sorry that their beloved Prov . Grand Alaster was still prevented from discharging his important Alasonic duties , but of one thing he

was confident , that the work of the province would be cheerfully done out of respect for their Prov . Grand Alaster . He thanked the brethren for the cordial manner in which the toast had been received . Bro . Joseph Alatthewman , P . AL 1019 , Prov . Asst . G . Secretary , also responded , and referred in terms of sympathy to the serious illness of the Provincial Grand Master , and quoted several passages from a letter he had

only recently received from him in testimony of his love for the Craft in his province . The toast of " The Worshipful Master" was proposed by Bro . Joseph Wilson , P . M ., P . P . G . Std . Br ., who referred to Bro . Niven as being one of the founders of the lodge . He had been most assiduous in the discharge of the duties of all the offices he had held in the lodge . He had proved himself a good Mason , and it afforded him much

pleasure to have the privilege of proposing thc toast ; he congratulated the W . AL on sucha splendid array of visitors who had assembled to do him honour ; he was glad that the condition of the lodge gave promise of continued prosperity , and he concluded by wishing thc W . M . a happy and prosperous year of ollice . The toast was received with acclamation . The W . M ., Bro . Niven , in responding , thanked Bro .

Wilson for the kind expressions he had used in proposing his health ; the present was , he might say , the proudest moment of his Alasonic life , he felt the serious responsibility which now devolved upon him , as the Alasters who had preceded him in the chair had done much to bring the lodge to its present satisfactory condition and he felt it would be dillicult to follow them , but , he continued , if he had health and strength he promised to the best of his ability—with

the assistance of the Past Alasters—to preside over thc lodge during the ensuing year , be hoped , to the satisfaction of the brethren . He appreciated the great honour the lodge had conferred on him , and felt keenly impressed during the singing of the anthem whicli had been SJ beautifully rendered by Bro . Waddington , and trusted that h would indeed be faithful to the trust that had been reposed in him , so that when he vacated the chair at the end of his

term he would not have lost the esteem of his brethren . Bro . A . Stephenson , P . AL , P . P . G . D . C , in proposing the toast of " The Retiring Alaster , " referred to the excellent manner in which the I . P . AI . had discharged thc duties of the chair during the past year . There had been plenty of work , and the cerem > nies had been ably rendered . The early promise which the retiring Master by his ability had

given of a successful year had been amply fulfilled . The lodge was proud of him , and would hope for and expect good work lrom him in future as a Past Master of thelodge . The brethren would remember with pleasure how Bro , Peterson early in the year had interested the lodge and numerous visitors by introducing two lectures , one by himself , on " Alasonic 'Triads , " and the other by Bro . Dr .

AL

Dr .
