After a long and somewhat excited discussion , which , from the subject being of a personal character , we do not tlvink it desirable
to publish , the original motion was carried by a large majority . We are amongst those who are desirous that all the servants of the Craft should be well paid ; and whilst acknowledging that the services of Brother Farnfield entitle him to a mark of favour from the Grand Lodge , we trust that this vote will not be allowed to operate as a precedent for such matters being settled by that body . As a rule , the details of financial questions cannot be properly
discussed in large assemblies ; and though they should have the controlling power , all such matters should originate with the committees or boards of management . Oqe thing is now clear , the Board of General Purposes must reconsider the whole question of remuneratipn in the Grand Secretary ' s office ; for it certainly will be a most curious anomaly for the superior officer to be paid less 3 or eyen aa little , as his assistant . Should the Grand Secretary ' s salary be increased , another question will arise—one which cannot be passed toe . iv ; 4 e
