Committee therefore recommend this subject to the grave consideration of the supporters ofrthe institution ; and they venture to reiterate that it is only by the increasing and increased exertions of all classes of its friends ; that their wishes can be realized ; indeed , a failure in carrying out the desired object to its fullest extent , would cast discredit on the whole Masonic body .
* 'Th ' e . Committee beg to direct the attention of the Brethren generally to the design of the institution , ( see Eule 2 ) , " To receive under its protection the sons of decayed and deceased brethren of every religious denomination , and wherever resident . " Also to the fact ( see Rule 52 ) " That the benefits offered by the system in operation prior to the establishment of the School House shall , under all circumstances be continued to the children of Brethren whose parents or frieds may object to their being placed in the establishment . "
" The Committee while gratefully acknowledging the liberal support they have received from some of the Lodges and . Brethren in the provinces , cannot but regret that in many instances this institution has not received that encouragement to which it is , from the number of country boys now on its books , fairly entitled . Many cases come before the Committee , recommended by long lists of Provincial Grand Officers , and other influential Brethren , none of whom , or their Lodges , subscribe to the institution . The Committee therefore venture to appeal to their provincial Brethren for their increased aid in carrying out the objects of the charity , and feel confident that it is only necessary to call their attention to the subject to meet with a ready and liberal response .
" The Committee may perhaps mention here , that out of the twenty-five boys in the School House , fifteen are from the provinces , and twenty-one of the other forty-five on the institution , making a total of thirty-six country boys . " The labours of the Committee have not solely been directed to the purposes of the new establishment , but they have continued to exercise as much supervision of the boys generally ; as circumstances will admit of , and they are happy to he able to report tha-t no case of complaint has come before them during the past year ; still they lament that they cannot exercise that control which they would be enabled to do , were the boys who were willing to enter the establishment all congregated under one roof .
" In laying before the Subscribers the accounts of the past year , the Committee wish to draw attention to the alteration of the period prescribed for making them up , determined on at the Special General Court in May last—viz ., to December 31 st in each year . This has necessarily caused some little variation in the amount on the present occasion , inasmuch as the accounts now presented will comprise ten months only . But the improvement contemplated by the alteration will amply compensate in future for the temporary inconvenience .
" The amount ot the funded property of the institution is now hld , l \) i ) , a sum which the Committee hope this year to have the means greatly to increase . The Building Sustentation Fund amounts to £ 58 $ 10 s . Qd . " The Committee beg to tender to Bro . R . H . Giraud , P . S . G . D ,, Hon . Solicitor , their acknowledgements for his valuable and gratuitous services in perfecting" the mirchase of the "premises at Tottenham , as well as for his readv and active
cooperation whenever his assistance can be of benefit to the institution . " 33 n > . Harris has been elected Collector in lieu of Bro Paradice superannuated , and the Committee have every reason at present to be satisfied with his attention and activity .
