M ., and had withdrawn in his favour , should be " pressed to continue for another year , " a suggestion in which all the brethren acquiesced . It was feared , however , that this could not be done , and a long discussion took place on the question of the confirmation of the minutes the Brethren being extremely anxious that the master should be then and there appointed , and the annual period of election not disturbed ; an appeal
being made to the W . M ., he obtained an admirable exposition of the law and custom from Bro . Hyde Pullen , and then suggested three views of the case for the consideration of the Brethren : —First , to negative the confirmation of the election of the W . M ., and issue summonses for the next regular Lodge , according to the more recent editions of the Constitutions , and elect another master ; which , with the confirmation would permanently throw the annual installation into the month of April , when the Lodge ceased to meet , and would be very inconvenient
and also cause an alteration of the by-laws , to do which required previous notice at a regular Lodge . Secondly , to confirm the minutes , including the election of W . M ., and then accept his resignation , which was then in writing in a brother ' s possession , and which resignation he held would be legal , inasmuch as he ( Dr . Norcott ) had not been installed ; and in which case no provision being other * wise made in the Constitution , the present W . M . would , as was desired , continue
m office till the next annual period of election . Thirdly , to confirm the minutes , including the election of W . M ., and let him attend and be installed as soon as his health permitted , and he ( Bro . Stebbing ) , acting then and in the meantime as W . M ., would nominate and invest the officers for the ensuing year ; having received Bro . Dr . Norcott ' s authority to select and name them , thus the Wardens would hold their office the full time , and the Lodge get what was so much heeded , 2 h 2
