The business of the evening being ended , the Brethren sat down to a very excellent dinner , provided with Bro . Pinniger ' s usual good taste . The usual Masonic toasts followed from the
chair . The W . M ., in giving "; The Prince Consort , the Prince of Wales , and the rest of the Royal Family , " happily remarked that it was one that should now never be omitted at the Masonic festive board , as in the latter part of the toast was included one who henceforth would be ever dear to the hearts of all Englishmen , the son-in law of our Queen , the husband of our Princess , the Brother of all Masons , Prince Frederick William of Prussia . With the health of theH . W .
Prov . G . M . Lord Methuen , was coupled the name of Bro . Weaver , Prov . J . G . Bro . Ladd , P . M ., proposed " The W . M ., ' who thanked the Brethren for the high honour conferred on him by the Brethren in placing him in the chair , and hoped his year of office might be one of unanimity and of prosperity to the Lodge . Bro , Biggs being entrusted with the gavel , rose to propose the health of their Past Masters ; he did so with more than ordinary pleasure , because in that list were to be found men who were not Masons in name , but in deeds—Past Masters who had done more in the cause of Masonry than any other Lodge in the Craft could boast of . First on their list was Bro . Gooch , the excellent D . Prov . G . M . of the
Province , who not only gave it his support as a provincial officer , but accepted the office of first W . M . on the opening of the Lodge in I 80 L For a period of many years Masonry was scarcely known in Wiltshire ; but , thanks to his influence and perseverance , it now claimed its place in the Masonic ranks ; and he felt sure that , under such able guidance , this province would , at no distant day , rank second to none . Next on their list was Bro . Weaver , who filled the office of W . M . in 1855 , and who had so ably installed their Master that day ; to him their
thanks were also especially due , for it was through his liberality , together with that of Bro . Henley , that funds were found to establish their Lodge . He had not only taken the office of W . M . of their Lodge , but had , immediately on quitting their chair , established a new Lodge at Devizes , himself taking the duties of W . M ., initiating during his year of office in that Lodge no less than twenty-two members—thus , as ho said before , constituting themselves Masons in deeds . The
other P . Ms . were equally zealous , but had not the anxiety of the two first in office—that of forming the now Lodge . Bros . Pinniger and Ladd had each upheld the dignity of tho chair , and he felt sure that with such examples as had been shown the younger Brethren , their Lodge could not fail to attain to that position their promoters and most ardent friends could wish . Bros . Weaver , Henley , and Ladd severally returned thanks ; and , after other Masonic toasts had followed , the Brethren separated , highly delighted with their annual festival .
