M ., with the view to act upon the more qualified candidates for the chair , and give some relief to him and other Past third proposition , said he would put the confirmation of the minutes , and if they were not carried he would put the second ; neither proposition being carried , the W . M . then put the question that the election of W . M . be not confirmed , on which a long and interesting discussion ensued , the Brethren being desirous and generally of opinion that if the minutes as to the election of Master were not confirmed , the present W . M . should continue in office , under his former installation ,
till the next annual period of election , and not disturb the old established and convenient period of election , in order to secure a brother as Master whom they desired to have . Bro . Stebbing objected to this view , and voted in the minority ; and the non-confirmation of the election was carried , on which it was proposed and seconded that the W . M . in the chair be requested to continue in office for the ensuing twelve months , in accordance with his former installation . Bro . Stebbing said he regretted to be compelled to refuse to put the motion , but he was responsible for the upholding to the best of his judgment the Book of Constitutions ; and the non-confirmation of the election of Master left no room to doubt that he must
summon the next regular . Lodge to elect a new Master , and he now gave directions to the Secretary so to do . He had deferred to the fullest discussion on the confirmation or rejection of the minutes ; and after the vote come to , the Constitutions rendered any other question inconvenient . As he had been nominated in the course of the proceedings , for election at the nest meeting , he should himself nominate Dr . Norcott , hoping the doctor would have re * covered ; and being personally very anxious if so good a Master could be got , to be relieved of his present office as soon as possible , having under pressing
circumstances been Master of two Lodges during the past year , and First Principal of a Chapter , and being really overworked . The W . M . then proceeded to initiate a gentleman of Southampton . Bro . T . Slade , P . M ., Treasurer , was i * e-elected , as was also the Tyler ; all the other business was postponed . The discussion on this troublesome subject was conducted in the most agreeable manner , all the members striving to follow the best course ; but during the banquet everyone expressed a belief that they ought to have carried the third proposition . At
seven o ' clock about thirty of the Brethren , including those named and the D . Prov . G . M , of Hampshire , Bro . Charles E . Deacon , sat down to a superb installation banquet specially got up for the occasion , and to honour the visit and intended services of Bros . Hyde Pullen and J . Itankin Stebbing . The temporary Master presided , and an evening of great delight was passed , —the illness of the respected Bro . Dr . Norcott alone casting an occasional shade on the proceedings ; the presence of the Masters and Wardens of the other local Lodges imparted an additional feeling of unanimity where all was unity and brotherly love *

Last summer some good men and true , feeling the want of a Lodge in Castletown , resolved to try and organize one ; a meeting was called , seven Brethren appeared , subscribed the money , and one Brother offered a room . A warrant was obtained from the Grand Lodge of Ireland , and " The Lodge of Mona" sprang into being . The following is a list of the original members and
officers of the Lodge : —Bros . K . B . Willis , W . M . ; Captain Barker , S . W . ; James M ^ lchrust , J . W . ; William Corrin , S . D . ; T . Boggers , J . D . ; William Ockerby , Treas . ; and Captain William Wallace , Sec , The progress of the Lodge may be imagined from the simple fact that on St . John ' s day seventeen Brethren of the Lodge sat down to the banquet . Among the Brethren are some of the first men in the island . Such is the zeal of the Castletown Masons , that they purpose shortly adding a Boyal Arch Chapter to their Lodge .
