is clearly evident that the boys therein resident , though very far from being the most intelligent of the number under instruction in the metropolis , are making such progress as to show the advisability of bringing all as speedily as possible under the course of training therein carried forward . In order to show the comparative advance of the boys under tuition , I have this year adopted a system of classification , by which it will be seen that the boys who have been but a short time under the care of Bro . the Rev . Charles Woodward , give evident proofs of the advantages they are receiving from an uniform course of training , most of whom , I am confident would not have taken any position at all , had they not derived benefit from residence under the eye of , and daily tuition from a competent instructor .
After the most earnest consideration and patient investigation , I am able to award the prizes in the following order : —
" Writing .. W . Fisher . History ...... .... .. P . A . Ward . General Knowledge .. L . G . Gamatjf Geography ...... .. R . H . Ward . Arithmetic .... •' ..... J . Lascelles .
" In the arithmetical examination , I have had the valuable assistance of Mr . J . P . Tuck , to whom the best thanks both of the Committee and myself are due . " 1 would beg to call the earnest attention of the Committee and the friends of the institution to the following classification , which I am confident will be as satisfactory to them as it has been to myself . —I have the honour to be , Brethren , " Your obedient and faithful friend and brother , ct March , 1858 .
