of the Boys' School being present shortly afterwards , produced his minutes of the Lodges to which he had applied for Stewards , and that of Fortitude and Old Cumberland Lodge was duly entered in its proper place , and a memorandum of " no answer received . " This and other explanations were deemed sufficient to exonerate the committee and Secretary from blame ; and as the Lodge of Fortitude and Old Cumberland has almost always been represented by a Steward at each of those charities , and as it was now too late to send one for the Boys '
School , it was ultimately decided that the W . M ., Bro . Ward , and the J . W ., Bro . Picard , should both serve as Stewards for the Girls' School , and thus keep up the reputation of their Lodge to its accustomed standing . Business over the Brethren adjourned to banquet , and the usual toasts were drunk , interspersed with some excellent singing . Thus ended a Masonic meeting pre-eminently distinguished by its working whilst at labour ; its earnest attention to charity , the brightest ornament of Freemasonry ; hospitality to its visitors ; and a truly happy and harmonious evening , which will long be remembered with pleasure .
Kent Lodge ( No . 15 ) . —The installation meeting was held at Bro . Harris ^ Three Tuns Tavern , Southwark , on Wednesday , the 10 th of March . Bro . C . C . Gibbs , W . M ., presided . Bro . Ha worth was passed to the 2 nd Degree , and Bros . Eattenbury , Sennet , and Wrangham were raised to the 3 rd Degree . Bro . Trebeck afterwards presented Bro . Ed . Dresser Eogers , the W . M . elect , and he was duly installed in the chair by Bro . Gibbs , and proclaimed and saluted in due form . The W . M . then appointed and invested the following as Officers for the year
ensuing : —Bros . Gibbs , P . M . ; Mariner , S . W . ; E . Jones , J . W . ; E . Barnes , jun ., Sec . ; W . P . Plummer , S . D . ; Thos . Anslow , J . D . ; Wm . Parker , I . G . ; the venerable Bro . Eichard Barnes , P . M ., who had been unanimously re-elected Treas ., and Bro . Geo . Jones , re-elected Tyler , were also invested . The installation ceremony was fully gone through , and in the most admirable manner , by Bro . Gibbs . This crowning act of his year of office received the warmest commendation from all present . Notice was given of a motion to take into consideration at the next
Lodge the most suitable testimonial of the gratitude of the members for Bro . Gibb ' s services , in addition to a Past Master ' s jewel . A . committee was appointed to consider the subject of a summer festival , in which the ladies of the Brethren might partake . The Kent Lodge will reach its centenary iu May ; a jewel in record of the event has been approved and prepared , —report speaks highly of the elegance of its design . The warrant is almost unique ; it bears the signature
of Bro . Laurence Dermot , the author or editor of the noted " Ahiman Eezon ; ' the size of the parchment does not exceed the dimensions of two of our pages . It is gratifying to learn that this long-established Lodge is in a most prosperous state , both with regard to its funds and number . There were present at installation , besides some ten of its members , several P . Ms ., and among them , Bros . Greenwood , Prov . G . Sec , Surrey ; How , and Isaacs . A capital supper , through somewhat late , closed a most satisfactory meeting .
St , Alban ' s Lodge ( No . 32 ) . —The Brethren of this excellent working Lodge met on Monday , the 8 th instant , at the London Coffee-house , Ludgate-hill , presided over by the W . M ., Bro . S . E . Nutt , G . S ., when Mr . J . Walton , a candidate , having been duly elected , was initiated into the secrets and mysteries of the Order . The W . M ' s . correct mode of working was instructive to the members of the Lodge and gratifying to the visitors . After which , Bro . Binney was raised to the sublime degree of a M . M ., which impressive ceremony was most
ably performed by the W . M . The Brethren then retired to their banquet-room ; the remainder of the evening being enlivened by some excellent singing ; and charity was amply exemplified by the prompt response to the appeal of Bro . Simmons , J . W . and Grand Steward elect , to support him as representing the St . Alban ' s Lodge as Steward for the Boys' Festival on the 10 th instant . Previous to
closing , Bro . Cole , W . M ., St . Teilo ' s Lodge , No . 996 , was elected a joining member . We cannot close our report of this distinguished red apron Lodge without complimenting the Master and Brethren upon their excellent working , liberality , and attention to their visitors .
