KENT . TO THE EDITOR 0 ! F THE FREEMASONS * MAGAZINE AND MASONIC MIRROR . Sir and Brother , —At a meeting of the Lodge of Freedom , No . 91 , held at Canterbury in May last , Brother R . Watson was nominated Prov . G-. S . B . for the ensuing year ; and in order to testify the respect he enjoyed in the Lodge , it was proposed and carried unanimously that he be presented with the clothing of his office , and that the H . W . Bro . C . P . Cooper , Prov . G . M . be requested to invest him with the same in Provincial Grand Lodge the June following .
Through some hidden mystery , the proposition has not been carried into effect , notwithstanding the worthy Brother had been consulted upon the subject , and expressed his entire approbation , and preference of this ( then ) novel testimonial . Time , that great leveller of all human greatness , works wonders , and to my great astonishment I find that on the 15 th insfc . Brother E . Watson was presented nn open Lodge not with the clothing but with a massive silver tankard . That he richly deserved this mark of esteem is indicated by the inscription around it , and one more appropriate could not possibly have been selected ; but with all due deference to the brethren who revoked the original proposition , upon the plea that
it would be derogatory to Brother W . ' s position to accept the clothing , I would suggest that in future all votes and resolutions duly passed by a majority of the Brethren be acted upon with the least possible delay ; and the general affairs of the Lodge be so conducted as to establish in a more perfect manner the seal of happiness and joy , peace , harmony , and brotherly love ; thereby banishing estrangements , and rendering those hearty evidences of a reunion unnecessary . I am , Sir and Brother , Yours , respectfully and fraternally , March 21 tli > 1855 . Honor and Eewaed .
